What would you recommend for a good super capacity top loader washer? My 15 year old Whirlpool just died. Don't really trust electronic controls, reviews of he top loaders are so mixed, I am unsure. Also sounds like Whirlpool/Maytag quality is down. Just want a dependable, preferably energy star rated washer.

To be honest I really don't trust electronic controls due to the fact that the majority of the repairs i do on front loader machines has to do with the electronic controls. In my opinion top loaders are more reliable. they get the job done. If you were to get a top loader i do recommend whirlpool, even though i agree that the quality is down. I also like the whirlpool cabrio, its a top loader but has electronic controls. it uses less water and soap just like a front loader. Whatever you do decide to purchase, I highly recommend that you purchase the extended warranty. This way if there is ever a problem, you know that you are covered.

Can my Whirlpool LXR7244P04 be fixed?

This is the 'PQ4', if is is that one parts are readily available. The image shows a front loader, but it is a top loader in the schematic. It really depends where the rusty dirt has come from. So yes it can be fixed, but whether economically on a 17 year old machine, that's another story. Call a locally recommended appliance technician to look at it.

During spin cylces very load noises----bearings gone less than three old got estimate of 4-500 to fix does that sound right?

Yes, that is a good price for a main bearing repair. I wouldn't recommend it. I would buy either a whirlpool top load washer with and agitator ( we are doing to many repairs on the wp washers without agitators), or I would buy the super capacity front load duet. You will save more money in the long run with the front loader. Both of these have been the best washers built in the last 30 years. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

What is its capacity

Overall home/domestic washers have similar capacities:

Front loaders: between 15 and 20 pounds capacity.
Top loaders: between 10 and 12 pounds capacity.

The best way to determine if you are not overloading your washer is by loading your clothes in the washer making sure it is loosely full of clothes "do not push the load down" to make room for more.

Trying to figure out Cu. ft. capacity

hi wanda, most top load whirlpool units, they make the sears kenmore models, are around 3.0 cubic feet.
its not that important for a top loader, but when going to a front loader thats how they rate them.
what i would recommend is you buy a unit that will do the laundry that you will need to do for the next 15 years.
what i mean is if you have 2 or more young children, that you will be doing laundry for the next 15 years, then a full size front loader would do you good. size 3.5 c/f or larger, like a whirlpool he4 or he5.
if it is just for 2 people then a smaller unit would be better, like a whirlpool duet or sport model.
the reason for the choice is a front loader needs to be filled up for it to work properly. doing smaller loads in a front loader will cause them to shake and not work as well.
now be ready as the new washers will cost about 1,000 bucks.
another suggestion for 2 people would be the whirlpool cabrio top loader. i like them alot and they have very few parts to fail and have a good reliability.
good luck and happy shopping.
p.s. remember sears will match prices and give you 10% off the best price!!

Washing machine woes

Buy a new machine. You have used it well. After Two repairs I suggest replacements

Since you are not paying for water I would suggest a top loader. I have been Happy with Kenmore (Whirlpool in Kenmore skin) or look at a Speed Queen Top loader.

Dont over load your new machine, learn what it can and cant handle.

Best of Luck T

WHAT IS THE LOAD CAPCITY SIZE OF WASHER MODEL 110.20702990

On newer, and sometimes a little newer, Whirlpool and Kenmore (Kenmore is made by Whirlpool) considers a few things in determing capacity. Most of the inner baskets are the same size, but they also add in agitator action into the mix. A Kenmore with an auger top agitator would have higher capacity than a Kenmore with just a normal agitator, even though it has the same sized drum. So a super capacity washer would have theoretically less CLEANING CAPACITY than a super capacity plus. The agitator action is actually what determines capacity on these models. So, with that in mind, cubic load should be about the same on both units. Sorry that I had to go into "Bill Nye The Washer Guy" mode, but thats about the only way to describe. Let me know if I can confuse you any more haha. Seriously though, if you need further help or info, write back, and will try to get you some other information. Remember, this theory only works on top load "normal people" washers, not the front loaders.

BEFORE I BUY --

SEARS SELLS AND REPAIRS KENMORE PRODUCTS. THEY ARE REASONABLY PRICED AND HAVE GOOD WARRANTIES. THE BEST PART IS THEY HAVE THERE OWN SERVICE AND MAITENCE DIVISION IN ALL MAJOR CITIES. BUY A WASHER AND DRIER WITH JUST THE BASIC CONTROLS ... ALL THE NIFTY STUFF IS JUST THAT ... NIFTY STUFF THAT IS USELESS. YOU DONT NEED 20 ERROR CODES TO TELL YOU WHAT IS GOING WRONG WHEN HALF THE TIME ITS THE LOGICBOARD THAT IS DEFECTIVE. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT BUYING ANY WASHERS AND DRYERS WITH "FUZZY LOGIC" OR MODELS THAT HAVE ALL THE LATEST "BELLS AND WHISTLES". ALL REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND ARE JUST SOMETHING ELSE TO GO BAD. I HAVE BEEN IN THE HVAC&R BUISNEES AND HAVE REPAIRED ALL MAJOR APPLIANCES FOR OVER 40 YEARS ... WITH ALL THE NEW GAGETS ... I AM GLAD I AM RETIRED.
