When camera is turned on "PROTECTED CARD" comes

You didn't specify the make and model of your camera, so I'm going to assume it uses SD cards.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Check if the card is truly write protected (check the little slider on the SD card). Its possible it slid into lock position accidentally

Check your owners manual about protected photos. There is a setting in the camera's setup that keeps you from accidentally erasing photos.

on the side of some picture cards there is a little tab that slides back and forth. If your card hs this try sliding it the other way. These are a write protection so to speak, or a lock in a sense

when i turn on my nikon coolpix the screen says memory card is write protected what does that mean

It sounds like the lock switch on the SD card is in the wrong position. Take the card out and move the switch away from the locked position and re-install it.
