My strainer/stopper is stuck in kitchen sink drain. How to remove it?

Are we talking about a sink drain or a floor drain? If its sink drain there is a stopper on the top and have to released from under the sink. The pipe underneath will have a 90 degree connection with a rod metal or plastic piece connected to the pull rod. Disconnect and it will free the stopper for cleaning. If a kitchen sink the piece is attached with plumbers puddy and a nut from under the sink. I would say its not worth cleaning or messing with it. If it's a floor drain. There is screws or a drop insert. Remove screws to release or simply lift out with a screw driver. Hope it helps.

We just experienced the problem describe in this question. A dinner guest pushed the strainer stopper past the Blanco flange over the disposer and the stopper could not be removed by pulling straight up. The Blanco flange is difficult to remove so we knew that removing the flange would be a last ditch effort. I tried using several tools trying to deform the stopper enough to lift past the lower part of the flange but without success. While I was on the internet looking for a solution, my wife found the obvious answer. She pushed the stopper down into the disposer, rotated it 90 degrees. She then aligned the edges of the stopper with two of the small indents in the lower part of the flange. The stopper was then pulled up past the flange where only two points on the circumference of the stopper contacted the flange.
Kudos to her for this simple solution.

Typically you just turn it a quarter turn.

Boy this ( girl) anyway this this a hard one. Just call ELkay they have a service department where all they do is take can of you . Call them I dot have there 800 number but I bet its on there web site.

This strainer is not for a garbage disposal. The strainer for the garbage disposal comes with the disposal. If you bought two of these for the sink, then that's why you have one left. The disposal has its own.

probably hair stuck in the drain. did you remove the stopper "pop up" if no hair or blockage there or in the trap, then its further down, you will need a small snake. 1/4 inch cable works well in bath and kitchen drains.
you can purchase one at home depot.

Sounds like plumbers putty un drain flange to sink may need to be replaced or strainer may need to be tighten up a little to see if that stops the leak.
