How long does it run before it shuts down? Does the laptop get hot? If so, make sure the air intake and exhaust ports are clean.

SOURCE: sony pcg-k35 cleaning

I had to figure this out not long ago.
First you need to pry up the piece of plastic trim that covers the speakers at the top of the keyboard.
Next romove the screws that hold in the keyboard. they will all be along the top of the keyboard.
Once that is out of the way. Remove the screws that secure the metal sheild plate and remove the plate.
You can now see the two fans. If you follow the air ducting from the fans there will be some peices of a tape like material that once pulled back will give you access to the airway to the cooling fins. This is were you will use compressed air to blow out dust build up.
It is also a good idea to clean the fan blades.
Once this done, replace the tape covers and reassemble.
I hope this helps because I couldnt find any info on this on the web.

SOURCE: i upgrade my sony vaio pcg-k35 to vista but the screen does not

go to the following website, scroll down and download mobility modder. http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php you will also need to download the lates catalyst software from ati don't worry that it isn't for your graphics card because mobility modder will change the files. finally follow all the instructions on the dh modder webpage where you downloaded it from and you can't go wrong. i used to have a sony vaio and i couldn't beleive how sony supports their customers after sale. they haven't and probably never will release a driver for these graphics cards. Shame on Sony!

SOURCE: Shuts down on AC in less than 3 minutes after boot

Sorry about your SONY problems.
You may want to try another charger,
Your charger changes your input voltage from A/C 120V / 220V to a constant regulated 19.77 ? Volts DC. or direct currant.
If your charger is allowing to much A/C to pass to the Unit, the unit may charge OK but with sense the incoming and as a protection, will shut down the power source.
I would take the charger to a Radio Shack or maybe someone qualified to check it !
If the charger is fairly old and you live in a lightning area, this may be the case.
If your unit will run without the charger attached, Boot it up regularly ( not in safe mode ) and make sure the battery if not at fault.
If you have a battery check utility !
Hope this information has helped you with your problem.

Hello. I have Sony Vaio PCG-5426. And I can't reinstall windows on that machine. I have out CD-ROM "II FreeCom" and i try to reinstall with that. In BIOS menu I acces for first boot drive...

you shouldn't need to have to press f9 to boot from cd rom if you have it set in the bios as the first boot device , are you sure the copy of windows on cd that you have is bootable. Try booting from the disc on another laptop or pc and see if you can start it

Another option to try is to boot from a usb drive

instructions on how to do that are here

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=118576

once you have booted to usb you should be able to access the cd rom

depending on what version of windows you are trying to install you will need to run different programs.

you could also install vista or windows 7 to usb drive and install it from that, it is much quicker than installing from cd/dvd you would need to be able to boot from usb to start with though

how to install vista or windows 7 from usb instructions can be found here

Boot from the "System Restore" CD-ROM.
One of the "setup" options for XP (or for Vista) is to "format" the entire disk-space, before continuing with the re-install.

I want to upgrade my ram what type of ram should i use and how what is the maximum amount of ram i can upgrade to?

Hi,
Memory Upgrade for Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop, the Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

Sony vaio pcg-7v2l

As you boot up press the F8 function key, you will then be able to select Last Known Good Configuration, if you are lucky Windows wil start up OK.
If not shutdown and restart again and press F8 again, this time select Safe Mode, this time if Windows starts up the screen resolution will be standard VGA mode. You will then be able to work out what is wrong.
If this doesn't work you will need to boot up with the Windows CD and do a system repair.
If this dosn't work you will need to do a complete reinstall of Windows plus the device drivers and all your software programs. Note - you will lose your data in this process.

No audio device on notebook

Cable3,

Sounds like you indeed have a problem with an audio hardware driver. Presumably the 'Audio Device on High Definition Bus' is the system detecting a device it doesn't have a driver installed for.

First question - was the sound working previously? If so, did you recently install any type of audio software not related to the sound device itself?

Please provide the exact model number of the VAIO notebook and we can point you to the correct driver and try that for starters.
