The printer wants a new cartridge put in. I know you have a generic cartridge in. Sometimes the generic cartridge chip is not read by your printer. Only one chip per usage also. The printer reads the chip when it is empty if it is the correct chip.
if you open the printhead, you see one red ligth, just moov this lite to the centre of the label and try again, is possible that you need to run the manual calibration from the setings,
Try first to run the SENSOR PROFILE and see if the sensor is cheking the gap. Then run manual calibration. If not work, reset to factory defult.
there might be something wrong with the card reader. Or something wrong with your card. Try cleaning them with something (not a tissue, that will make it worse). If that doesn't work, it's probably something wrong with the internal wiring and such, so there's not too much you can do about it

and as far as a defect....anything man made ushally breaks at some point...unless its cast iron and 600lbs and built to with stand a war.
