Can fix canon digital camera as webcam to my computer?

Unfortunately, you can't use this Canon model as a webcam. Canon offers other models that can be used, but this one cannot.

Make sure you've installed all the software you can find for your camera, power it up, and plug it in. Windows will tell you if it has a webcam function. If it's a webcam, then it will appear in "My Computer" as a device, right along with all the disk drives. To be sure, go to your control panel and select "Scanners and Cameras". Is your camera listed? If not... it's not a webcam.

In the unlikely event that you have a 'video in' on your computer, and that your camera has a 'video out' then you can follow the instructions on the sony site ("how to use a digital still camera as a webcam"); but most people will not have that yellow 'video in' connection.

The A470 was not designed to stream images and videos to a computer, but to record them onto a memory card. It cannot be used as a webcam. Nor cannot it be connected to a computer to save images directly to your hard disk.

Canon's digital SLRs can store images directly to your computer using dedicated software, but they cannot be used as webcams.

So, if you want a webcam, you need to acquire one. Likewise, if you want to save images directly to your computer, you need a camera that can do that. Some webcams can record and store still images, but they tend to be rather low-res, often only 640x480 (0.3 megapixels). Even HD video is only 2 megapixels. Webcams and cameras are two completely different things.

No, you cannot use the Canon SX100 camera as a webcam device under the Canon software.

It has hardware/software limitations to used it as one webcam, mainly because it was not designed as one.

There are some 3rd party applications that claim that can be used it to have a digital camera ans some Canon PowerShot models simulating a WebCam. The issue is that such applications cost money ($50.00 average). You can try at your own risk in the following web link:

I am seeing that you can check at your own risk because there are several variables that may arise and cause a conflict (USB drivers, applicartions drivers for Xp, Mac, Vista, incompatibility with your camera, etc).

I do recommend you to have debugged your webcam so it's working properly.

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

i have the same camera but i want to use it like a webcam.
I found a driver that is located in the canon homepage, called "canon RAW codec"(compatible with Vista and XP), and it allows you to download the photos of the camera and to take fotos instantly, but it don't suport the webcam function...  :(  . I'm using it in windows XP.

That's all, Ithink that it must work for all the users.

If you download the twain driver, your computer can manage the camera as any other optical input device, therefore , in that way you may use it as a webcamers.
However this camera had not been built to be a webcam and will not be recognised by messengers and similar software.

Better getting a cheap webcam instead.

you can only do it if you have the software for it and only the canon people can make the software for you.But if u already have the software then u can go ahead and use it as a webcam....

No, digital cameras usually cannot be used as webcams unfortunately because they do not have the correct softwear to hook up to a computer.
