Your email must use
the right imap with the right port and right security connexion that often are detected automatically, but this can be wrong !
On
gmail.com I use
imap.gmail.com port 993 as security SSL/TLS and a normal password but this can be very different on other email and countries.
You must ask to your email provider or ask to google with the right question for your detailed problem.
I had more problems for sending than receiing. For example with google gmail chooses a new smtp protocol like Oauth2 not supported by my software thunderbird.
In this case the normal password was the solution after many attemps over severail hours.
You can change of email software or use a last update ?
Otherwise, each time I change of home google blocks my email as if I was a hacker robbing all my email and in this case google send an email to my other rescue email ( that gmail ask to you to give ), to indicate that this is you and not a robbing haccker !!
