I have a dell inspiron 1750 - which came bundled with cyberlink powerdvd 8.3.1.6107. It will not play the bluray version of Avatar, nor will it successfully update to any newer version. The Cyberlink website offers no update for the Dell bundled software either. Any help?

Sometimes it is the problem of BD player software. You can try Leawo Blu-ray Player

The Dell Inspiron 1750 came with a DVD+/-RW drive. Did you purchase a replacement blu-ray optical drive (or purchase from dell with the upgrade to blu-ray)? If you do not have a blu-ray drive, a bluray movie will not play.

Cyberlink has some support information and manuals here: http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/index.do . Search for PowerDVD and DX8 for Dell in the two drop down menus.

In addition, Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 only supports Blu-ray in their Ultra Edition (Blu-ray Disc) only. You will need to purchase either a newer version of the product that includes blu-ray support (or if sold separately the plug-ins that make the Ultra version of the product). See http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd/compare-retail_en_US.html for the different versions of Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 (and version 9). Scroll down to the section labeled HD Video Support.

I hope this helps.

No video sound from lg dvd writer when playing dvd movie. player will play cd sound. what is the problem.

I had the exact same problem with my LG model GH22LP20 DVD drive. This is how I solved my problem:

I finally solved this problem. It was a Cyberlink software problem; specifically the software bundled with my DVD which was a Cyberlink Suite w/ PowerDVD2_bing.gif 7.0.

After going 3 - 4 rounds, via email, with Cyberlink tech support in India I finally got them to put down their "100,001 mindless ways to solve a software problem" manual and they emailed me a link to download a slightly newer version of the software; it was Cyberlink Hi-Def Suite, w/ PowerDVD 7.3.

I uninstalled my bundled software, and installed the newer software they gave me. After installing the newer software everything worked perfectly. If you're still having problems and have the same software version I started with, keep bugging Cyberlink tech support (be patient and diligent) until they acknowledge it's a software problem and send you a download link for a newer version. Good luck!

Somehow managed to uninstall the DVD driver on my computer and Dell site doesn't seem to contain any suitable drivers. Model is an inspiron 6400

Have you lost the capability to play DVDs? If so, it's not a driver issue but a program issue. Your machine probably came with Cyberlink's Powerdvd program but, if you don't have it, you can download VLC media player for free. Not as snazzy but it will let you watch a movie.

Playing DVDs on Laptop through the TV

Here's what's happening... software companies like CyberLink subscribe to the Macrovision requirements for playing DVDs and protecting copyrighted materials.

Macrovision has approved numerous video cards for what they call "TV Out" which allows the movie to be displayed on your TV.

Unfortunately, your Dell Inspiron does not have a Macrovision approved and supported video card in it, so it gives instructions to the computer to disable TV Out and not allow it to play anywhere besides the computer.

GM5664 won't play Blue-Ray Discs

There are newer versions out Cyberlink PowerDVD out now. Perhaps getting their new software would fix your problem. However the newer versions of PowerDVD will cost you a few bucks. There may be free software that plays the Blu-Rays. I'd definitely look around before buying the software.
