Hands free calling and FM transmitter

TomTom GO 720 pairs with my N95 8GB but only plays the conversation through the internal speaker and not the FM transmitter. I can bearly hear the conversation. Help anyone? The other functions work fine with the FM transmitter.

Weak hands free, and I hear the drumbs when I tune to the channel but voice is over the unit

I've had my Tom Tom Go 720 for almost a year and instructions through the FM Transmitter worked well until I guess during an update it was taken off. Now there is not even the option to send instructions to the car stereo through FM Transmitter, only through the speaker, bluethooth and line-out cable. The next menu screen does have the option to transmit music through the FM transmitter. I don't get it. I already e-mailed Tom Tom support.

Maybe this is known knowledge by others but I just discovered a glitch today with the 720 I have the following firmware and software below.
    App:8.301(9736/090114)
    OS:244890
    GPSv: 1.20
    Boot: 5.5015
    Map: North America v815.2019

My discovery is that this version of the firmware still allows turn by turn instructions as long as you navigate to the fm transmitter page it will broadcast over the radio. If you leave that page then it only transmit through the internal speaker. So there appears to be a glitch with their software so maybe someone will figure out a way to hack this someday or TomTom will stop punishing the US market and renable this feature. I would love to see if someone else can replicate this issue with the same firmware.

Old post, but here we go.

1: Update to latest firmware from tomtom, for Gox20/x30 that is 8.351
2: Make an silent mp3 file and put that onto device
3: Play silent mp3 in loop
4: Send nav instructions over fm to radio... et voila!

Yep - bad news, it won't do that. I bought my TomTom 930T this summer and was very disappointed when it didn't do that.

Now the unit can no longer transmit the instructions over FM either as "it infridges uk radio laws"

Hi

Tom Tom have removed the facility, as detailed below:

We understand that you are concerned about the recent change to the TomTom application which has disabled FM Transmission of navigation instructions. We deeply regret that it has become necessary for us to implement this change, as our FM Transmission technology was a unique innovation at the time of its release.
Unfortunately, due to recent legislation, it is no longer allowed to occupy an unused FM frequency unless audio transmission is constant. Because the signal that carries your TomTom's voice instructions is not constant (voice instructions are only given occasionally, as needed) it has now become illegal to transmit this kind of audio via FM radio transmission.
We regret that this feature can no longer be offered under the current legal restriction.

Great sounding speaker, but nothing but trouble with the bluetooth. It appears that I can only have one device paired at a time. In order to connect another device, it breaks the current pairing. A

Yes this is a 'feature' of Bluetooth. (I have never seen the point of Bluetooth... Wi-Fi does everything it does, but better !)

It DOES usefully enable a phone or tablet to play though headphones or speaker and to use a headset 'cordlessly'...

Consider instead a 'Bluetooth Receiver' (under US $10 from China) connected to a FM Stereo Bug (Transmitter) - Then you can use any number of quality FM Radios (including phones with built in FM) up to 50 metres or so away...

Have new lap top [toshiba satellite] have connected tomtomgo 520 twice and on both occasions my wi fi connection has been disabled

Built-in FM Transmitter to transmit sound over own car stereo and lets not forget Best hands-free calling> Best guess is that your computer is finding and trying to connect to the blue tooth connection since Toshiba has blue tooth capabilities, also you could be losing the wifi signal just because the FM transmitter is overpowering the the wifi signal. If i had to guess though i would go for the blue tooth connection as being the problem. Hope this helps

Go 730 not sending a fm signal

Hi,

If you have made a recent update this may be the reason you may have lost your FM transmission!!

Tom Tom disabled silent FM transmission on these units to comply with the law in certain countries which prohibit these FM transmissions. Later updates configured the units to output lower strength FM transmissions.

There is a possible workaround for this - see this link for a discussion on the issue.
http://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-go-630-720-720t-730-730t-740/19436-go-730-lost-fm-transmission-after-map-update.html

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa

Is it possible to connect my PC to my outdoor speakers? I want to play music outside using my PC. Is there a special connector that I need?

There are a couple of ways to go about this. The first would be to locate a similar computer speaker system set up outside - provide power and extend the cable to them - if not too far. When you want to listen to the outside speakers, plug the cable into the headphone jack of the computer. Adjust volume and enjoy.

Another way, would be to buy (or build from kit form) a low power FM transmitter. These devices are available in mono & stereo types and will play over all FM radios and stereos in a 50 to 300+ foot radius (depending on antenna, wall construction, transmitter power, etc.) when they are tuned to the transmitter frequency. These can be found for under $100 or built for as little as $30 or so. The upside to this method is that the music is available over ALL radios nearby.

Still another way is a wireless speaker system. This works like the FM transmitter, but will only work on these particular speakers. These will require power only - but some will work from internal batteries as well as AC power. The system includes a small transmitter, power cord & cable to plug into a headphone jack - all for use at the computer, and two speakers - each with a power cord as well and possibly a remote control.

Use of a spare pair of old stereo speakers will probably not work as the computer's sound card rarely develops more than a watt or two - and most home speakers require 10 or more watts to be driven properly.

Tomtom speaker stoped working

More than likely the small spaker inside has siezed up!
You can puchase a replacement (search ebay for replacement speaker tomtom) for about 10GBP.

They are easy to replace - 4 screws on back of 710, pop out main unit, and remove 4 screws holding speaker, unplug and install new one - reverse to assembly once more.

I had a strange experience in Vegas when I took my tomtom710 on vacation. the tomtom was silent in the UK - speaker dead as a doedoe, however 3-4 hours in the Vegas heat on the dash made the speaker pop back into life!
Result I thought, however on return to the UK the temp had returned to below miserable and the tomtom didn't wanna play ball anymore.

So, tested the output internally with another temp speaker, all works fine - so just ordered a replacement "original" tom tom speaker to fully fix.

Wont play voice through my stereo...

The instructions through FM transmitter violated some European regulations so had to be removed. The latest application update removes this feature for navigation - though music is still allowed. Sucks for US customers, not sure if they will release a US only application build to resolve this issue or not.
