Hi, my device will play DVD's fine with sound, but I get no sound from the freeview tuner. I have tried re-tuning many times, but nothing works. I knoe the signal is adequate as it worked previously for over a year & another freeview box works fine. It is broken or have the kids changed some setting that I can't find? Any advice?
Hi I have a Wharfdale dvd recorder with 80gb hard drive and digital freeview receiver dvdrhd400f. I get sound when I play back a dvd or previously recorded progams on the hard drive but when I want to watch freeview or record from freeview I get no sound could you advise what I cam try to get the freeview sound working again.

You can diagnose which device is causing the problem quite easily. Connect an audio source such as a output wire from a small stereo to an RCA plug. With the volume on low plug the audio source into the right and then the left port where the freview connects to the input on your DVD player. If the audio passes through to your speakers, you know the DVD player is functioning properly.
Now, to test the output of the freeview: Get a pair of amplified computer speakers. They have cheap ones at walmart for 10 dollars, If you keep the receipt you can even bring them back. Next, go to radioshack and get an adapter cable to convert the 1/8" stereo input plug on the PC speakers to male RCA phono plugs(If you keep the receipt you can bring this back too within 30 days). Now, plug the RCA Adapter cable into the R/L output jacks on the freeview, then plug the 1/8" Stereo plug from the amplified PC speakers into the adapter no plugged into the freeview. Power up the freeview and the speakers(make sure the volume is up on the PC speakers. If you get sound out of the speakers the Freeview is putting out audio.
At this point you will know which unit is causing the problem. If they both work you have a set of bad cables, But I'm sure you already checked them and they are plugged in properly.
Once you figure out which device is giving you problems you can concentrate you efforts on troubleshooting that device(Settings,mute,source,ect...) The circuit board where the tuner is placed have a crack ,or cold solder joint parts .That's why no movie or freeview comes out,The only thing you do is little reheating works, so it will works again better.

Cold solder issues - each
component is soldered into small
holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said
component to the
other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be
cracked
or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally
connected
(hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be
generated which would
be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no
longer
provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside
enough to
re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.
Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly
probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is
possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections"
except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to
the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold
solder".
Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more
experienced
buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course
in
addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....If i have

There may be some settings to go to the default nature try that or reset the whole unit.thank you
First of all check all your audio connections make sure the output o of the receiver goes to the input of your tv.
