Gas dryer's start button doesn't stay engaged

Pushed start button and the drum begins tumbling but when I let off the start button, the drum quits turning. Heating and drying good until this problem. I replaced the start button. Still won't stay "engaged" to keep tumbler going. I held down the new start button for a while to see if the heat would kick on. It didn't. The tumbler turned for as long as I held in the button but no heating. What should I try next? Kenmore gas dryer model: MGR 5775 QDW

Admiral Heavy Duty Super Capacity Plus dryer does not start when button is pushed. The dryer buzzes when the start button is pushed, but the dryer will not start tumbling. The model number is ADE7005AYW...

Motor runs, but drum does not turn
1. Broken or slipping belt---replace
2. Loose pulley---tighten pulley on shaft
3. Drum jammed or bearing frozen---check for foreign object & clear it
Clean or replace bearing

Dryer will engage with "start" button but will not operate when "start" button is disengaged.

So this sounds like it will start when the start button is pushed but will not stay running after the start button is released.

I.e. press start and drum turns

Leg go of the start button drum stops.

This would be a bad motor switch. Pressing start engages the start winding but once started the motor is not kicking the switch to run.

In some cases the broken belt safety switch can cause this if the drive belt is stretched or has been in use for a long time and worn.

Thanks for using FixYa!

Kenmore 600 Dryer- suddenly stopped working

can you hear the motor running, if so then more than likely the belt broke, you need to unplug it ,remove the front cover, then top cover, then remove drum and you can start to restring the new belt

Just moved, dryer won't tumble with a load. Error code PF

Did it get tipped in the move? I don't know about the specific model of Maytag, but on my old Kenmore the belt that ran the drum also had a wheel and kind of like a pulley that it had to seated on in order for the belt to stay centered on the drum and turn properly.I don't know how you get the shell off the front to get at the drum, the Kenmore had screws that you had to take out and lift the control panel off and then back to get at the inside. Sorry

My dryr tumbles but does not dry

Gas dryer? First thing to check is the ignitor underneath the drum. (You have to open the panel to see it)  It should glow shortly after the dryer starts, then the flame starts and the ignitor shuts off.  If the ignitor is glowing but the gas does not light then the gas valve coils may have to be replaced.  If the gas ignites but does not stay on either the flame sensor or the coils are at fault.

Electric dryer? Temperature sensor has failed or heating element has burned out.

Dryer wont stay running

Either the motor relay, or if this is an evenheat dryer, the evenheat control board could be bad.
