The L4 and its software will work with any size SD cards. Make sure you get SD cards, not SDHC cards. SD cards go up to 2GB, while SDHC cards start at 4GB and go up.

After inserting memory card in Nikon coolpix L105 the error 'this card cannot be used' has occured. what is the solution?

The L105 works with SD cards. Make sure you're not using an SDHC card. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Nikkon coolpix L1 After downloading memory card .. then putting back into camera. Reading says "cannot read memory card." Checked card out at store verified that it is good. Why does it not work in my...

A couple things you might try.. remove the card carefully and check the position of the "lock" tab. Make sure it is fully in the unlocked position - not locked or a point between the two positions. Reinsert and try again.

It sounds lie you're using a card reader to download the pictures - try formatting the card while in the card reader via computer. The card should be completely empty when the format is complete. You can even try copying files to and from the card to make sure its ok and format again. When complete, try again in camera.

If the problem persists, check to make sure the card is on Nikon approved memory card list for use with the Coolpix L1 (provided below):

The following is a list of approved memory cards for the Coolpix L1 digital still camera. These cards have been tested and approved for use with the Coolpix L1.
The L1 uses SD (Secure Digital) memory. Sandisk:
  • 64MB, 128 MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
Toshiba:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 128 MB*, 256MB*, 512MB
Panasonic:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
* - Cards rated for 10MB/s (high speed) Other cards have not been tested. For more details on the memory cards listed above, please contact the manufacturer.

The list came direct from Nikon Support. Other cards may work, but only those on the list are approved. Successful use of other cards can not be guaranteed.

I hope this helps!

My coolpix s9 cam will not transfer pics from cam..i would use a card reader but the pics are on the cams harddrive and not the sd card...please help!or does anyone know how to tranfer pics from cams...

You can copy pictures from the internal memory to a memory card by selecting "Copy" from the Playback menu.

Press the MENU button to bring up the main menu, then select the right-pointing triangle to get into the Playback menu.

Nikon tells me that the biggest card that will work with my 3200 is a 512mb. However there are much larger cards sold for this camera that are "guaranteed" to work. can I use a 2gb card? What problems...

SD cards up to 2GB should work in the 3200. Nikon's claim is due to the fact that at the time the 3200 was released there basically were no cards larger than 512MB and thus larger cards had not been tested.

Cards larger than 2GB are technically SDHC cards and will NOT work in the 3200.

New SanDisk 4GB CF Card - Coolpix displays out of memory

This is because the Coolpix 2100 and 31000 models cannot handle a card of that large a capacity. As it's only a 2MP camera anyway it doesn't need it.

The Coolpix 2100/3100 will usually accept up to a 512MB CF card, and 1GB Lexar CF cards up to and including the 24x WA write accelerated (although write acceleration itself offers no benefits on this camera). With Sandisk only a plain old and now obsolete SDFB allows a 1GB card to be used and the regular Sandisk Ultra (not Ultra II or later) will only work up to 512MB.

The camera was discontinued long before these much larger CF cards were released and Nikon no longer actively support the product so no firmware updates will be available. The hardware wouldn't support such cards anyway.

Nikon Coolpix 4600: Problem: It won't take any photos, it reads: THIS CARD CANNOT BE USED. The card is 128 MB. I purchased a new card: 2GB but it won't work also. My manual says to clean the contacts...

1) Have you formatted the cards?

2) Try the cards in the card reader in your computer to see if they can be read.

3) Try the "switch off camera - remove and replace battery - switch on camera" trick with the original 128 Mb card in place. This will reset the camera's memory.

4) Note the type of card is important - not all cards can be used in a camera (especially some of the latest bigger ones) - check the type of cards supported by your camera.

I found this at the Nikon USA site (note that the 2 GB card is not listed - as said "Cards are not all the same" and use different drivers to operate them):

Question Which Secure Digital Cards are approved for use in the Coolpix 4600/5600? trnsp.gif Answer The Nikon Quality Department has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 4600/5600:

SD memory cards:
SanDisk 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB, 512MB*, 1 GB
Panasonic 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB*,1 GB
Toshiba 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 128 MB*, 256 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB

*High speed type of 10 MB/s or over

Other brands and capacities of cards may work, but Nikon cannot guarantee their operation. Check with the manufacturer of the third-
party card for compatibility information. Nikon recommends keeping one of the approved cards available for troubleshooting.
