Hi! I bought SAMSUNG SpinPoint MT2 HM100UI (bare drive) and found it is too thick for my laptop and too thick for two external enclosures I bought. Can you recommend an external 2.5 inch enclosure that will fit this drive? Thank you!

Need connector

I found this possibility

Is my samsung fried ?

It could be the enclosure itself. I would try that first, especially if you have data you are trying to recover.

or it could be that it was running NTFS and it was improperly removed.

If you don't have anything you are trying to recover, you could just reformat it. JUST REMEMBER: Reformatting will erase any data on the drive.

Hi, I have dropped my iOmega portable HDD. The actual drive inside the iOmega case is a Samsung 1TB HM100UI. Now when connecting power to the drive I get a sequence of beeps/sounds then nothing. The...

If you remove the drive and connect it to a pc using the sata cables it could work if you only damaged the controler.

In my experience it is more likely the drive itself is damaged. If this happens and the read/write head or the magnetic store is physically damagedthe only way is to ask a data recovery company. The good news is that recovering a single drive is relatively cheap......

How to change a pcb board on a samsung hard drive

Remove the securing screws and gently unplug the ribbon cable. I do not advise doing this however, as even the same model of this drive may use a pcb board that is a different revision to yours

My samsung HM160HI external harddrive is not recorgnised by my laptop.I have tried different laptops,PCs and cables with the same results.This harddrive have been working 100% for the past year.

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Is my hard drive broken? Cant get it recognised on other PCs

I'm having a similar problem with the same Akasa integral enclosure, so far I have tried 3 different hard disks and not one of them will work properly and on two different computers.. , all of the hard disks I've tried are Samsung .. but I'm sure that makes no difference. I plan to send back the enclosure to where I bought it from and get a different one from a different manufacturer.

Samsung sp0802n HDD enclosure. I installed everything. The safe remove program detect the massage storage, but the hard drive icon does not show.

Has the hard drive been formated?
To format the drive, plug the external drive into the USB port - go to the Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Storage - Disk Management. The External drive should be listed as USB drive. On the lower panel, right click on the USB Drive and click on Format, and format it in NTFS.
After formating you will be able to use it as a normal hard drive.
