One thing that I would do is to remove the back cover and make sure there are not any obstructions by fan motor or contacts for heating elements. Don't know where you are located but around here we have a real problem with mud dauber wasps getting in almost anywhere. I have had several power tools fail to work and upon disassembly have found nests. Thank you

Try spraying a LITTLE WD-40 on the fan bearings, with the heater unplugged, of course. You may have to remove the case to get access. Before you spray, try to spin the fan with your finger. Spray then try again with the finger. I think this will do it. If you don't have WD-40 ... try sewing machine or other light house hold oil.

Have a patton space heater. Light is on when plugged in but will not start. Can you tell me how to fix?

If the light on your Patton space heater is on, but the heater will not start, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue:
  1. Check the power source: Make sure the heater is plugged into a working outlet and that the circuit breaker or fuse is not tripped.
  2. Check the thermostat: Make sure the thermostat is set to a temperature higher than the current room temperature. If the thermostat is set too low, the heater will not turn on.
  3. Check the safety features: Some space heaters have safety features, such as a tip-over switch or overheating protection, that will shut off the heater if it is not positioned properly or if it gets too hot. Check to make sure the heater is positioned correctly and not too close to anything that could cause it to overheat.
  4. Clean the heater: Over time, dust and debris can accumulate in the heater, which can cause it to malfunction. Unplug the heater and clean it thoroughly, making sure to remove any debris from the heating element.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a problem with the heater's internal components. In that case, it is best to contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician for further assistance.

I purchased the Patton PUH9000 heater last year. I puts out a lot of heat at first, but shuts itself off after about 5 minutes, then cycles back on after a couple of minutes. Is this normal operation? I...

My Patton PUH682 utility heater from 2011 is otherwise in excellent condition but Auto Safety Shut-Off seems to be a design problem. My overheat sensor quickly shut off the unit when surrounding air was cool. It is inside the bottom of the fan box wired between the on/off potentiometer and heating coils.
I identified it by turning on the heater and watched the metal contacts separate as it tripped. On my unit, the defective overheat sensor is hardwired. Since it was otherwise useless as a heater, I decided to jerry-rig it and hope for the best. I pried back the sheet metal edge of the fan box and wrapped the sensor with electrical tape. Then I took a very small squeezable metal paper clip and lined it with electrical tape. I clamped it over the overheat sensor and it fits perfectly to prevent the metal plates from separating. Now the heater works the way it should. The cable, coils and plug don't overheat on Hot setting and it runs continuously.

I have a patton puh682 1500 watt heater and after a while it just seems to turn off is there some kind of timer or heat control?

Under the main black knob is a bi-metal switch which shuts down the heat at various temps depending on your setting. Their is no timer.

I bought it new, about one week ago. I plugged it in, sparks flew from inside and now the fan works, but there is no heat.

if you blow a limit switch the fan continues to run in an attempt to cool it down, try unpluging it and letting it sit for about 30min to reset the limit switch, plug it back in if the fan continues to run with no heat replace the limit switch.

I'm thinking about buying a Patton PCH 199 Twin Ceramic Heater. Do you recommend this product?

Twin ceramic heaters are intense, but, not intended for indoor use without adequate ventilation. They radiate heat and patton is a reputable brand in heating devices.

Space heater will power up, but not start,

These fans have a safey feature (sensor) that shuts the heater off if it is tipped over. It sounds like this component is not functioning correctly - may be set wrong and will not allow the heater to turn on unless you shake it to reset the sensor. If it is still under warranty return heater, if not call Patton and ask for help.
