Hello, This happens with epson as it has a chip on the cartridge, which sometimes shows the cartridge empty even if there is some ink left on it. You can try this steps:- 1. With the printer turned on press the ink replace button, which will bring the print head to ink replacement position, pull out the cartridges one by one and cover the tip of the cartridge with some tape and shake the cartridges and reinsert it on the printer and press the ink replacement button once again, the printer will check the inks cartridges, if the inks is empty it will show the red light again, pressing the button once will bring the printer to ink replacement position with the cartridge to be replaced on the replacement position. you can also check on the printer software on the pc that which ink cartridge is emptied.
Hope this helps.

My problem is that the printer is not recognising that the cartridge in inserted...it tells me "no cartridge" and also "ink empty", i have put 2 brand new cartridges in and it still...

reset the waste ink counter, put black tape on critical ridge of all cartridges and refilled them. All showed full. All was well for 2 sheets, then all 4 cartridges are showing as near empty on LCD also on software monitor program. Whether or not they are near empty, how does the printer know with the light beam blocked? I have made filling holes on each cartridge (sealed with rubber plugs) so that I can refill without removing them. Doing this is not going to change the readout.
My expert TIP: Buy a new printer. Printers today are as just as expensive as a set of printer inks. Printers have heads and they get dirty over time and might need replacement, which is all the more expensive. Try buying ink advantage printers, they DO indeed save money. Or try looking for somebody who knows how to modify your printer to a CIS (Continuous Ink Supply) printer.

Hi

First it is not advisable to use other catridge other than epson because it will damage your printer. Because the printer have specialized chip that detect epson cartridge only. It will be okay for 2-3 times but later on it will say out of ink even you put new cartridge. I suggest if your printer had reset ink cartridge, just reset it and turn off your printer and computer for 5 mins. Then to restart on fresh mode and then try to print again. Next time use epson only because later it will not detect ink cartridge any more.

I hope it helps you.

you can check the ink level from following steps Method one: Check the ink levels from the idle screen on the color graphics display Look for four icons at the bottom of the color graphics display. The icons represent the ink level remaining in each of the four color ink cartridges: black, yellow, light cyan (blue), and light magenta (pink). A larger and more accurate view of the ink levels can be displayed from the Setup menu. If an ink cartridge containing non-HP ink is being used, a question mark displays instead of the ink drop in the icon for that cartridge. The HP All-in-One cannot detect the amount of ink remaining in ink cartridges that contain non-HP ink. Figure 1: Non-HP ink iconc00841629.jpg NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty. If a hollow ink drop icon displays, the ink cartridge represented by that color icon has very little ink remaining and will need to be changed soon. You might be able to continue printing for a short period of time with ink remaining in the print head assembly. Replace the ink cartridge when the Replace Soon warning message displays on the color graphics display. Figure 2: Low ink level iconc00841630.jpg When the Empty Ink message appears on the color graphics display, the indicated ink cartridge is out of ink. Replace the indicated ink cartridge. Method two: Check ink levels from the Windows computer The estimated amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges can be checked from the computer. See the on-screen HP Director Help for information on checking the ink levels from the Printer
  1. Open the printer Toolbox. To do so, do one of the following:
    • Open HP Solution Center, click the Settings menu, then point to Print Settings , then click Printer Toolbox .
    • Right-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the tray, then point to your printer model name, and click Display Printer Toolbox .
    The Toolbox opens.
  2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink level gauges display.
Method three: Check ink levels from the Setup menu
  1. Press Setup on the printer control panel.
  2. Scroll down and select Display Ink Gauge . The Ink Gauge status from the Tools menu will only display on the color graphics display.

If the ink level is low and the cartridge is new please contact the dealer from whom you got the cartridge and if it shows that the ink level is good enough please comment so that i can give you another step to perform
