I have a CDA-9855 Alpine head unit. It worked just fine when removed from my prior vehicle (05 VW Golf). I just installed it in an 01 Land Rover Discovery II using a wiring harness adapter so no cutting or splicing was involved. The unit powers up, and the radio works and there is sound coming from the speakers, but when I insert a CD or plug in the iPod through the KCA-420i there is no sound, but it displays what song is playing on the screen. I have tried hitting the reset button on the front face, but nothing changed other than reseting everything. I have also made sure the internal amp setting is turned on. What should I be looking at?

It sounds like you have the blue wire (antenna remote turn on) instead of the blue/white wire (amplifier remote turn on) turning on an external amplifier in your rover. the antenna remote wire turns off when you leave tuner mode.

Blown Speaker Channels

Chips fail, even for the best of us! If the preamp outputs are still fine, you can purchase a small 4 channel from Alpine for 100-150. About the same as a repair yet cleaner power. Check EBAY there's always good deals to be had!
Hope this helps

No sound from my 9855 alpine

There is an option in the unit itself to turn off the internal amplifier. If you push the 'menu' button, then go to the setup/settings menu, and then i believe it was under the 'general settings' tab. there's a option called INT IC or something. Make sure that is turned on.

A new one will come with a new face plate, but you could try checking pawn shops for a used one. Prices will vary.

Alpine CDA-9855 won't recognize SIR-ALP1

I also had this problem. I had to go through the menu into the setup and then into tuner settings. There should be an option called tuner area. If you set it to area 1 it should start working. For some reason the sirius only works on area one. Hope that solces your problem

Try lens cleaner first, always the best idea. If it makes a clicking sound when trying to read the discs, you're looking at a bad optical pickup.
