Pry the beater release button out with a screwdriver. There are two screws underneath it and one under the motor housing between the the beater holes. This will allow you to remove the chrome front cover, but not the motor and drive assembly. Getting to the part that contains the gears requires complete disassembly of the mixer. It is not designed for service, and requires patience and a variety of tools to disassemble.

It has a metal worm gear and plastic drive gears. If the beaters are out of alignment, then one or both of the plastic gears are stripped and the mixer is junk. Repair plus shipping costs equals the price of a new mixer. This is the weak point of these mixers and a fundamental flaw in an otherwise robust and sturdy design. It is definitly not the same mixer *********** bought 30 years ago.

Got spatula stuck between beaters striped gears

The gears are readily available. Just open the micer and replace them. You will have to pop the buttons out of the front and rear to get to some of the screws. Once you remove the gears, also remove ALL the grease. It has broken pieces in it. Use light lithium grease to refill the gear area HALF FULL. Make sure when you put the gears in, they you line up the marks on them with the motor shaft. One will be straight in line and one will be at a 45 degree angle. This is so the beaters don't hit.

Middle better comes loose

Try placing some "braces" rubber bands around the shafts of the beaters. This should tighten the hold of the shaft with the mixer and keep them more straight.

Have one that does not work and want to know how to open it- can see no clear idea how to and want to avoid damage. regards, Peter

The mixer is not designed to be disassembled or serviced. When it breaks (and it will) Sunbeam will replace it under warranty if you are lucky or you toss it in the trash.

That said, start by prying out the beater release button. There are two small screws under it and one between the beater inserts to remove the chrome front cover. The large black dial at the rear can be pulled straight off, revealing more screws. The motor and drive assembly in the top cannot be removed without disconnecting wiring from the circuit board in the base.
