The oven uses a silicone carbide ignitor which requires 3.6 amps or better to open the gas safety valve.
If you don't see any glow from it then it is either blown or the gas valve has gone bad. If it is glowing but not real bright it probably is weak.

I have a GE True Temp XL44 oven the stove burners work fine but the oven will not light. When I turn it on the oven, I do not smell any gas. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

could be a problem with the ignitor. take the racks out of the oven. remove bottom panel in oven. remove metal plate covering the flame spreader. the ignitor should now be visible. turn the oven on. the ignitor should begin to glow. if it doesn't glow bright white, or bright glow, ignitor is bad and needs to be changed.

Ge xl44 gas range, oven will not come on. everthing else works fine

If you see the ignitor glowing down there that means power is getting to the oven circuit. You have a weak ignitor if that is the case. Sometimes you can bump it and make it work. Check out this video

I have a GE Spectra XL44, model #JGBP40BEC4WH gas oven. The 4 burners on top work but the oven will not. I replaced the oven safety valve (dual type 1), thinking that it was stuck and not directing gas to...

Most likely, you're oven igniter is not getting hot enough to open the gas valve to ignite the burner. It glows like normal, but does not reach the temperature required to open the gas valve. Replace the igniter. Before you replace that, make sure that the small shutoff lever on the appliance regulator was not accidentally closed, which would turn off the gas to the oven, while still allowing gas to the stovetop. The silver lever should be sticking straight out or up. Douglas

Where is the pilotlight on a ge xl44 gas stove I belive it is in the door under the oven well I turned the gas on and stuck a flame down there and nothen took off is there a certian place to put the flame....

In general lets be clear. The OVEN pilot is located under the oven door at the top of the Broiler. It is a small piece of metal just before the GAS safety Valve which acts on temperature so gas won't flow unless Pilot is lit,That's the OVEN PILOT.The stove's RANGE is the top burners where you heat Pots and Pans.It has either 2 Pilot lights that connect the burners to the Flame they are under the Range Top.Newer Models use electronic ignitions no flame. Please note if you had your stove/oven disconected or Gas off when you turn it back on there will be air in the line that needs to escape before you light. This is why in NYC when Utility Co.works on steet main the MUST re-light your appliances.Be Careful with Gas.Good Luck.

Magic chef oven/stove top range not staying hot

Hi, It very well could be the ignitor. Sometimes they work at first and then will not open the gas valve later in cycle. You can set the oven to heat and watch the ignitor. If it glows and the gas will not ignite in 30 to 45 seconds, the igniter is getting weak. I jope this helps.
Please let me know if I can assit you further.

Replaced gas safety valve, burner flame now too hot

Take a 1/2 inch open end wrench and tighten the orifice on top of the safety valve.Probably about 2 turns. Then adjust the air shutter to mostly open.

Ge xl44 oven not igniting but burners ignite

The most common failure for a nobake on this type of oven is the bake ignitor. turn unit on and look at the bottom of the oven, you should after about 30-45 seconds see an ORANGE glow, if you do not, chances are you have a failed ignitor.Remove lower part of oven and if you have a meter, place one lead on each terminal and check for continuity( a closed circuit)
If you have an "open" circuit, the ignitor is bad

Oven burner flame is low

0000000.jpgOn top of that safety valve is a nut. Get a good fitting wrench. Turn on the oven and use that good fitting wrench on that nut. Turn it counterclockwise till the flame comes up about midways of the flame spreader. Don't get the flames too high. Midways of the spreader now. LOL
