Email not being delivered to recipient

I have been using Outlook 2003 Basic for several years. In the past week most time when I send an email it shows the outbox as empty and puts it in the sent file but my emails are not being received.

    On outlook email outgoing setting is smpt.comcast. Incoming is mail.comcast.net

    When I run the test I get the email confirming the test.

  • Anonymous Jul 18, 2008

    I am not getting any kind of error message.

  • Anonymous Jul 18, 2008

    I guess you misunderstood me - the test works, but if I send an email thru outlook it gets lost in outer space somewhere.

  • Anonymous Jul 19, 2008

    I did check with Comcast and they say from their end everything is okay - when I send from comcast.net (and not outlook) things go thru but from outlook they just disappear - (they are in my sent items folder but noone is getting them).

  • Anonymous Jul 19, 2008

    email server is already set correctly. I don't know what a dynamic IP is so I don't know if I am on one.

    How do I verify receipt?

    Thanks!

  • Anonymous Jul 20, 2008

    I sent an email and did not get a confirmation of the receipt. Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

  • Anonymous Jul 20, 2008

    No, we checked that. Also email will go out when I send it thru comcast and not outlook. I am beginning to think that reinstalling outlook might be the answer.

    It turns out to have been some kind of adware that got on the computer. We restored the computer to where it was prior to the problems happening and now it is fine. Thanks for all of your help!

    I noticed several months ago that my sent mail was not arriving at their destination address. It appears to have been sent as the mail is listed as sent. Sometimes the mail will arrive. Often it will not.

  • RSREAVES Mar 26, 2009

    I USE THE ADDRESS PROVIDED FROM EMAIL RECEIVED THEN I USE REPLY. WHEN I REPLY

You smtp has to go through Comcast if youre on Comcast. You can't switch. You can relay though but thats another story.

So outgoing mail server has to be smtp.comcast.net. Are you using comcast to get your e-mail or are you using someone else as well?

    So pop3 account settings have to be set at mail.comcat.net. Type in your user name (which is your e-mail address and password) and test the account.

    Sounds like it is working properly.

    Call Comcast tech support and have them test your email connections in thier network. I have ran into a few cases where they were disabled by Comcast for unknown reasons.

  • Tim Babcock
    Tim Babcock Jul 19, 2008

    You have to set your e-mail server settings to smtp.comcast.net in Outlook to send your e-mail out otherwise they won't go through. It's Comcasts requirement that they don't allow outgoing e-mail servers other than their own to send out e-mail. If you have a commercial account with them and a static IP address with a domain name you can use your own server to send e-mail out. If your on a dynamic IP account you will run into trouble because Comcast changes the IP address without any notice to you causing e-mail to stop delivering.

    I hope this answers your questions.

    You can setup a verify e-mail with your outgoing e-mail messages to make sure that they have been received.

    Try tools menu and then options. Look for a tab that says receipts on it and check off the request a send receipt for all messages box.

    Then receiver gets a message allowing a receipt to be sent back to you when you send a message.

    Is there any firewalls hooked up to your network that might be stopping e-mail from getting through?

  • Tim Babcock
    Tim Babcock Jul 21, 2008

    When you say sending your e-mail through outlook isn't working but sending it through Comcast is, what other e-mail program are you using to send your e-mail out with.

    Reinstall it is a good idea.

    If you could shoot me over from the e-mail address you are having trouble with, I can run some audits on the flow to see where the hangup is. I should have thought of this in the first place but usually I don't have any hangups with clients of mine that are using Comcast.

    E-mail me the info at [email protected]. You will get a message that youve been block by the spam filter so send me the release e-mail and I will release it right away.

    Port 25 isn't blocked on your router for any reason is it?

  • Tim Babcock
    Tim Babcock Jul 21, 2008

    Make sure that port number 110 isn't blocked on your router or any of your firewalls. That port is what controls SMTP services to happen.

Hallmark Card Studio E-mailed Cards Not Reaching Recipients

How do you know it was not delivered - i.e., did the sender receive a return email notice that it was undeliverable or did the recipient receive anything at all? If it was sent and just disappeared, there may have been a problem with the email address. If an "undeliverable" notice was returned to the sender, there may have been a problem with the recipient's server, email program or virus software.

Outlook has several settings which prevent certain types of emails from being delivered or received. It attempts to block anything that looks like spam. For example, emails with too many attachments, certain types of extensions, large picture files, emails being sent out to too many people at a time, etc. Some of these setting can be changed, but some cannot. You don't say which version of Outlook you are using. If it has not worked when you are sending the card directly from the Hallmark program using Outlook as your default email program, you might try opening Outlook and creating an email from there and attaching the card.

The source of the problem could also be the virus software of the sender or the receiver.

How do I forward a letter to a yahoo address, it keeps coming up Outlook Express and I don't have an account with them I am trying to send it from Quizzle

A common problem. Open your customary email provider and pull up the correspondence form. Then copy the material you want to forward with Ctrl-a, Ctrl-c and paste it into the content field with Ctrl-v. Then copy the email address shown on the Outlook form and paste it into the address area of your usual email form.
MicroSoft assumes that everyone wants to use Outlook so many pages default to it when locating an email application for insertion of the recipient address.

How to automatically BCC my outlook emails to another email address I must send copies automatically to my assistant..please tell me the steps in setting it up as a rule or whatever in outlook! Thank...

To automatically Bcc all outgoing messages
Outlook has a rule to automatically Cc another person on outgoing messages, but no equivalent for Bcc. This page offers two code samples for adding such an automatic Bcc. Both use the Application.ItemSend event, which fires whenever a user sends a message or other item.
Method #1 (Basic) This version is suitable for Outlook 2003 or later. It uses Outlook objects exclusively and includes error handling to avoid problems with an invalid Bcc address. Place this VBA code in the built-in ThisOutlookSession module:
=======Code Starts here Method#1======
Private Sub Application_ItemSend(ByVal Item As Object, _
Cancel As Boolean)
Dim objRecip As Recipient
Dim strMsg As String
Dim res As Integer
Dim strBcc As String
On Error Resume Next
' #### USER OPTIONS ####
' address for Bcc -- must be SMTP address or resolvable
' to a name in the address book
strBcc = "[email protected]"
Set objRecip = Item.Recipients.Add(strBcc)
objRecip.Type = olBCC
If Not objRecip.Resolve Then
strMsg = "Could not resolve the Bcc recipient. " & _
"Do you want still to send the message?"
res = MsgBox(strMsg, vbYesNo + vbDefaultButton1, _
"Could Not Resolve Bcc Recipient")
If res = vbNo Then
Cancel = True
End If
End If
Set objRecip = Nothing
End Sub
=======Code ENDS here Method#1======
Make sure you substitute the right e-mail address for "[email protected]."
The reason that this method is not suitable for versions earlier than Outlook 2003 is because it will trigger an address book security prompt due to the use of Recipients.Add. You could avoid security prompts by simply setting the Item.Bcc property to the desired address, but that has two problems. First, it would wipe out any Bcc recipients that the user might have already added. Also, in some Outlook configurations, setting Bcc without trying to resolve the address results in an unresolved address, even if you use a proper SMTP address; you'll get an error, and Outlook won't send the message.

Forwarding emails using Outlook 2003 Professional

I use Outlook 2003 and sometimes have a similar problem with messages I forward.
It only happens though with messages I receive in an account that is not my default account and which configuration (SMTP server, security, etc.) is different from the default account's.
And it happens because Outlook forwards messages from the email account the message was received, not from the default email account.
So if you have different accounts configured in Outlook, you might want to check the SMTP servers and security configurations of email accounts other the than default account (which seems to be OK since you can send emails).
You can also direct Outlook to send your forward messages from your default account and not the account the resent message was addressed to.
Hope this helps.

Outlook 2003 says email is 'sent' but never get delivered

paul, make sure on your end that the emails you send end up in your Sent box and not stuck in the Out box...if still in Out they are not sending...if that is the case comcast may be blocking SMTP port 25 (unless you upgrade to some "Pro" type of account). are you you using comcast as your email provider?

Email not received by recipients

It is possible that the mail you sent just simply has not arrived to its location just yet. It is also possible that your email could have been filtered, or thrown in the spam folder for whatever reason.

Most of the time, if Outlook says it was sent, then it was more than likely sent, as it watches the connections to the servers... Now we just have to find it.

If you can, have the intended recipient of your email check the spam/junk mail folder. Also, if you are connecting to a webmail server such as Gmail through outlook, and you are (for example) sending your email to someone that is using Yahoo mail... Sometimes it may take a moment to go through all the way, though it should not take TOO long.

I hope that this has helped to solve your problem, good luck!
