The following may work: remove all the ink supplies. Remove the printhead and soak it for about 5 minutes in 0.5" of very hot water. Gently blot the printhead on a soft damp paper towel to remove the excess water, then replace in the printer and then reinstall the ink supplies. get more help to fix printer not printing black . Hope this helps you.

Although you are only trying to print a B & W picture, the color print cartridge/cartridges must also contain ink in order for the printer to work. All print cartridges must contain ink for printing of any type to take place.
Load the color print cartridges and the B & W picture will print.
If you were trying to print a color picture and the B & W cartridge was empty, the printer also, would not print.
I hope this helps you out.
Good Luck
SOURCE: Possible to print only black when colour cartridges are empty?

SOURCE: My printer has an almost full black cartridge but will not print.
Check the ink lines, the printer head might be clogged, If thats not fixing anything then check your printer settings on the computer and remove the color option. Changing it to black and white can somtimes just be from color, not just black.
SOURCE: black ink won't print even though the cartridge is
Hi,
It could be you just have a bad cartridge, If it's new, take it back and get a new one to make sure it's not the cartridge. If you get the new one and it still doesn't print black, then you have a bad print head. Meaning it would need to go to a service dealer to replace or repair the print head.
Thanks Mark

If this is an Epson then that is a safety feature to ensure the print nozzles do not get air in them. The only solution is to replace those cartridges out of ink.
