I have a Sony KDF-50 WE 655 and I suspect the fan that allows the lamp to come on is not functioning right. I have to wait for the fan to come on before the TV actually comes on. If the fan does not come on all I see is 6 red blinks right after I try to turn it on. Is this a fan problem? or it maybe the thermal fuse as well? Thanks

the g1 board is your issue. 6 blinks means there is no or low b+ coming from the g1 board.

in this set 3 blinks means lamp cover not set properly but i think that your problem is your 6x red blinks that means you have a problem in the audio section in your set(missing a voltage) or a themal fuse open.

It's in standby mode.

Do a reset and see what happens

While holding down the reset button on the remote
Press the power button on the tv
(The tv will turn itself off the back on)
Now release the reset button

It sounds like the lamp needs replaced.

Where is the lamp module located for a sony kdf 42we655?

Please read here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=KDF42WE655&news_id=84

From SONY:
If the screen becomes dark, the color looks unusual, or the LAMP indicator on the front of the TV flashes, it is time to replace the lamp with a new one (not supplied).

Use only a replacement Sony XL-2100U or XL-2100 for your TV. Use of any other lamp may damage your LCD projection TV. Contact your Sony dealer for a replacement lamp.

Click here to download step-by-step directions for replacing your TV's lamp.

Note: Before replacing the lamp, turn the power off on the main unit. Wait several minutes, then unplug the power cord. (The cooling fan will continue to blow for about two minutes after turning the power off.)

Be sure to allow the lamp to cool down completely before removing it. The surface of the lamp remains extremely hot for at least 30 minutes after the power has been turned off.

My sony 3LCD TV m/n KDF-E60A20 keeps turning off for about 30 seconds then on for about 1 or 2 minutes. we rerplaced the ballast. what could be wrong ?

It sounds like a defective themal cutoff sensor which is mounted near where the lamp housing slides in. They are well known to fail giving false thermal problems.. Other than that make sure fans are clean and vents are unabstructed. Or could possibly be a lamp. But I suspect the thermal cutoff sensor
Heres its part number 1-910-023-93 should be available at Vance Baldwin or other electronic distributors for about 6.00

I was watching tv on ,my sony kdf-e42a10 and it turned off by its self but notice there was a red light that said lamp that was blinking what can i do or should i say whats wron with my tv help any one

Your tv uses a xl-2400 lamp. Its common in that set for the lamp to go bad and still visually look ok. If the set come on for about 30 seconds and goes off then lamp light blinks I would suspect the lamp for sure. If it will not even come on now and lamp light is blinking I would also suspect the lamp. You can look here for more blinking code information. Its a great website lol just kidding.. its our site..

It overheats and pops the Xl-2100u lamp?

by pops? do you mean it explode? how many lamps? it could be the fan that supposed to be ventilating the lamp or it could be the the ballast, why the ballast because the ballast regulates the voltage in order the keep the lamp on, for ignition it sends around 15,000 volts after that it regulates the votage to a small amount of voltage around 5,000 so it could be sending the big amount of voltage all the time never regulates that or it could be regulating and then sending another big amount of voltage over and over until the lamp doesnt handle those changes.

Picture is really dark

i think nothing other than the lamp could be causing the problem, is the fan actually out or you just suspect it stops working. Is the lamp an original sony lamp? some outfits that supply the replacement lamps just go by the physical shape of the lamp(round or square?)it might be you got the wrong lamp for it.If the fan is not working then the heat of the lamp could cause some light engine damage, could be an expensive repair.

Lamp cover melting

Open the back case (about 10 screws) and clean the lamp cooling fan. This is NOT the one you can see from the outside. It is located in a horizontal position above the lamp area from the rear. A DRY toothbrush can be used to brush out the dust. Keep a vacuum nozzle next to it while cleaning so the dust does not go inside. Some say to use compressed air to blow out the dust, but vacuuming it keeps better control and can prevent unwanted dust from moving down into the optics.

I learned this the hard way when replacement lamp burnt out in one week. I thought the cooling fan that you can see from the outside (it actually is the exhaust fan) was the only fan. The lamp cooling fan sucks in cool air and puts it right down onto the lamp.

Test the fans by turning on unit without lamp installed (the fans will power on for a short period of time and you can see them function to verify airflow). Clean this fan once a year as the dust will be back.

Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60XS955 60 in. Rear Projection popped and turned off

the reason your lamp blew so quickly is the the lamp fan has become cloged with dust. this is a known problem by sony and I have done 15 or so of the up grades needed. first look at the lamp door is it discolored and warped. if so have a tech order the up grade kit which includes a new door, siraco fan, thermal fuse, and lamp. the return fan may also be needed. also some service menu changes need to be made with the fan voltages of fan 1 and fan2.
