Hi. I have seen this before, although usually not from chamberlain garage door openers.

Pull the release cord that unlocks the door from the opener, and manually open the door ALL the way open.

Then lock back in place in the open position.

Then use automatic opener to shut door.

It will close very slowly, but should close all the way.

Then, open the door again using the remote, and the door will once again open slowly, this time it should open all the way.

Then close door with remote, and door should now close as it is supposed, with the proper speed.

The slow opening and shutting is the system position sensor resetting itself.

This is why your door is acting up.

I would also look up by the belt drive connects to the front of the garage door opening, to make sure there isn't any dirt, cobwebs, or other obstructions on the sensor that may cause it to re-close the way it does.

How do I replace the motor and gear drive on Chamberlain MODEL hd900d OPENER

Purchase the full kit. Not the partial kit. The instructions come with the kit. Be sure to follow them. The position of the chain and the opener when you reattach the chain are Important. It's not beyond that the ability of a handy person.

If you have power going to unit and you cannot get it to work with wall switch, the control board is fubar. Can be replaced.
Contact chamberlain for part - look for a reset button unit - if none call company for possible hidden code for same.

Do you have the users manual of the system with you?Read it and follow the calibration instructions,it may take some trial and error to go through it,buts thats how we do it when we install a new or used garage access system. But of course you have to have some one to work with you cause you might be adjusting some pins or rollers, just an advice.

I have a Chamberlain Whisper Drive Security + model HD900D that is opening by itself awhile after the door has fully closed & I've gone into the house, sometimes its hours after the door fully closes....

If the door hits the floor too hard the safety will reverse it to the open position. This can be an intermittent situation. A bad wall control or the wiring to it will also cause this problem. To eliminate them you can remove the wire from terminal #1 on the rear of the motor unit. A staple in the wire can cut through the insulation.

Chamberlain hd900d garage door opener

You will have to open the unit and look inside it. Unplug it first. It should have 6-8 screws to take off. You will see 3 white plastic adjustment screws. There is a carriage they sit in. Make sure they are in this carriage. If you would like stay back a bit and plug it in and watch it run to see how it works. It is a direct contact system, so when the middle screw touches the copper limit of the limit screw it stops. Thanks BB

Hi there. I have a Chamberlain Whisper Drive

I just had that problem this morning and the cause was that the springs that help hold the weight of the garage door were broken. This caused the garage door opener to raise the garage door a fe inches and then drop again. We called in a professional and $200 later we had new springs and everything works fine now.

Installed Chamberlain Whisper Drive but door slides backwards

It sounds like you may have a spring problem. Release the door from the opener and see how it acts manually. Open it as far as the opener does and then see what happens when you release it. Also the weight of the door should give you a clue.
