Question about Compaq Presario S6500NX (DQ181A#ABA) PC Desktop

1 Answer

The VGA port on the back isn't working. When I plug in the monitor the monitor goes into standby mode right away. I have checked the monitor with another computer and it works fine.

The video chip has died. Since it's part of the chipset it means that the entire motherboard has died and it will have to be replaced. Your pc is an old one, a new Socket A motherboard cannot be found - they went out of production at least 4 years ago so you will have to find a second hand one. One that will work in your pc

  1. Please try by reseating the RAM modules.
  2. Please check the VGA output port is properly fixed.
  3. Reset the BIOS to its default.
  4. Check whether the monitor colour resolution is out of range
If yes, set it to default.

Please check whether is works with different computer
IF yes, Check the VGA port.

Dell228wfp on start up pwr on is green screen

Either the cable is not connected to the proper port or the display-source is not configured properly. Here's what you can try.
  • Ensure that you have connected the VGA/DVI cable in the correct port. If you have an extended graphics card in your computer, use a DVI cable(Digital input) else the VGA would be the only option available.
  • If the cable seems to be plugged at the right place, press the first button from the left on the front panel of your monitor (Button 1 shown in the front view: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/E228WFP/En/ug/about.htm#Front_View), once. This toggles the digital mode to analog mode of your monitor, and vice versa.
  • If the first two steps do not work, its not an issue with the monitor. It could be a failing cable or a defective video card, or the system itself is not completing the POST.

Thanks,
Abhishek

Screen comes on says Acer then No Signal, and goes out. if shut power off and then back on get same result.

This means the monitor believes it's not connected to the computer. Verify the cables first of all. Then try booting in safe mode (F8 key at PC startup) in order to verify that the PC is sending data to the proper video port (you might have a dual VGA / Digital output, for example, and the monitor might be connected to the wrong PC port). Quite often, a "bad signal" will be the same of "no signal"; and you can have a bad signal if the monitor resolution on the PC is set too high. This could happen if you installed a high-resolution capable monitor, and then replaced it with a not-completely-plug-and-play, lower resolution one. The PC would keep sending hi-res signals to a monitor which can neither interpret them, nor tell the PC "please slow down". To check this last possibility, reboot your computer while the monitor is ON. When PCs reboot, they usually drop back to standard VGA signaling, which all monitors understand. If the monitor abruptly comes to life and displays a boot screen, then goes No Signal again after several seconds, you've got a resolution issue; get in Safe Mode with F8 key at boot, and modify the screen properties (right-mouse button on the desktop, then Properties).

If everything else fails, try also connecting the monitor to another PC or laptop, to see if it works there.

My lg monitor starts up when i start the computer then the picture goes away and i get a check signal cable. cables are all connected. i just installed it. any ideas? thanks, lauri

You have vga (display) problem, try to load to safe mode and change the display setting, or reload the driver, if it didnot work make sure the vga card is plugged correctly into the motherboard. if all this doesnot work, change the display card.

My L1718S monitor go`s on and off all the time

The monitor switching off can be due to various reasons. I am ennumerating them..check each point carefully.

1. check the vga cable and power cable going to the monitor. they may be loosely connected. make sure the cables are firmly into the port at both ends.

2. there maybe power saving mode active... computer going into standby/suspend mode. check the power settings. right click desktop > properties> screensaver  tab... click power button.

3. If not using a UPS try checking the power supply for voltage fluctuations and spikes

Hope this will resolve your issue otherwise post back.

if this helps you please vote for me. thanks for using fixya

Lp w1952tq goes into power saving mode

one some laptops you need to enable the video/vga port (where you plug the monitor in). On a Dell, you'd press function (Fn key) and F8 - this will activate the additional video out port. If you keep pressing that combination, you'll get one, the other, or both working in sequence.

I have an asus mother board with athlon64 3800+ cpu. I have two dual head nvidia geforce 6600 vid cards ea. w/ 1 pcie and 1 pci output to sli and vga, respectively. I barely know what I'm talking about...

sounds like your computer is going into standby or sleep mode. Does hitting enter on the keyboard turn it back on? Does pressing the power button turn it back on? One of those should do it.

You can change it so it does not do this, In windows xp you can goto power options in the control panel, and change system standby to 'never'. Not sure in vista probably about the same thing.

If this doesn't help then maybe you have a hardware problem.

Analog power save mode

Are you connect via Analog (Blue VGA connection) or DVI (White Digital connection?

If you are connected via DVI, then you have to change the input select button to DVI

If you are Connected VGA, make sure the system doesn't have 2 VGA ports. If it does, connect to the other port.

Can't see screen to install diver for HP Compaq WF 1907

My friend just purchase this monitor yesterday. When she plugged it in to the back of the tower she received the same prompt u have mentioned. I was able to repair it because she simply did not realize that I had installed a new graphics card into her pc a few months ago. When u do this, you have to hook your monitor into the area where the new graphics card was installed. You can not plug your monitor into the same onboard card that u have previously plugged your monitor into.
Let me know, if by chance, u did install a new graphics card.
Hope this was helpful :)
