Hello, Can you tell me what make of GPS will work with the Icom m-504. I tried using the Garmin 76csx with the NEMA in/Nema out function set, but it will not communicate to the Icom. I would appreciate any assistance you could provide. Thank You.

Hi!

We had the same problem with our Uniden Oceanus failing to communicate with our GPS. What the problem was, was that our VHF didn't recognize the NMEA sentences transmitted from our "ancient" GPS. We ended up buying a Standard Horizon cp180 chartplotter. PRESTO! Our DSC capability materialized.

Your 76CSx is newer than our Magellan was, so before you take on the task of a $400 chartplotter purchase, just make sure your BAUD rate is set to 4800. This adjustment alone could make your GPS work with your ICOM.

Hope this is helpful.

Where do all the wiring go to on the garmin 400c

The rest of the wires are for interfacing (letting the unit 'talk') with other devices such as radar or GPS. These wires/colors are pretty standard and defined by NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association). You need wiring diagrams for the devices to hook them up. For fun, see where 'nema' takes you with Google.

Raymarine Raychart 520 Interface to PC

you will need to hook up direct. Seatalk wont handle a waypoint download, but the chartplotter will accept the data directly into the NMEA in port. All other data, like wind depth and latlon are handled by seatalk

Non-Garmin GPSr

Garmin software will only work with Garmin hardware. Garmin does not use the standard NEMA protocol for GPS output, but their own. Also their software is tied to their hardware by a unit id, which require an unlock code in order for the maps to function.
