Minn Kota Model 35 24lb thrust transom trolling motor not getting power

My wife got her fishing line tangled in the trolling motor. I took off the prop and removed all line. Now the motor is not getting power. I am not sure if these are related. If you have any ideas on how to get power back let me know. I did hook it up to my car battery to see if it would even spin a little and it did nothing. I also hooked up my backup motor to the battery so I know it is not that. Let me know.

It might help to view drawings at http://secure.northlandmarine.com/MinnkotaTillerSteering.html.
The spring loaded items are brushes. They carry current to the rotor/shaft/impeller causing them to spin. I have two Model 35s. One failed after a couple hours of use. The other was given to me because it did not work. Both suffer from water getting into the motor and causing corrosion and sticking brushes. Someone on another site commented that this was a common problem for Minn Kota.

I had the same problem on mine. It would work but lose power and then stop all together. You could tap the base of the motor and it would start but I ended up breaking it down and it had alot of moisture inside the motor. I dried it out. I took a wire brush on a dremmel and went over the carbon brushes. Sprayed a little WD-40 into it and it worked great for about a month then did the same thing. I guess I need to replace the rubber O rings..

I believe i had the same issue and i had to fully take it apart. but the problem with doing that is you have a spring type of thing inside the motor. if you pull the motor apart anymore and are not paying attention it will fly out and it took me hours to get it back together

How should a 12 volt deep cycle battery last when trolling on #1 with a 30 lb thrust

It depends on the Amp/Hour rating of the battery and the amount of current your motor draws on setting 1.

Hey Chris,, you are starting a project (or wanting to) that is going to be problematic... It will be easier to go buy a new trolling motor with the money you are going to spend attempting this conversion... the newer trolling motors are so much more efficient...

MY MINN KOTA 30LB THRUST MOTOR HAS DEVELOPED A NOISE IN THE LOWER UNIT LIKE A LOOSE BEARING.IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE IN REVERSE

Hi!
Here is a schematic for your motor:
Endura 30
It sounds like the motor has leaked water into it and wil need to be cleaned up, have the brushes, seal kit and bearings replaced.
Best of luck!

TOOK THE BOLTS OUT OF MINN KOTA AND CANT GET THEM IN. 2 SHORT.

Hi!
Here's a schematic:
Max 74 Bowmount
Make sure the end housing #7has a small mark in it pointed to the bottom (towards the skeg). The bolts can be a pain to line up!
Also make sure the armature is all the way forward it can go....past the brushes is the toughest part to get through and lined up. Keep it up, you'll get it!
Best of luck

How does the minn kota 65 all terrain run on 24

You should only run the motor with a 24v battery or two 12v batters 'jumped' out. To jump the two batteries, connect the positive on one batter to the negative on the other battery and hook the trolling motor battery cables up to positive and negative terminals that are NOT jumped out as you would normally. Don't run this with 12v as you will have serious problems if you do. They do not make a 65lb thrust in 12v - too much pound thrust to run off of 12v.

Minn Kota Trolling Motor will not run

Hi!
For starters, here is a schematic:
Endura 30
Check to see if there is appropriate voltage getting to the switch (with an ohm meter).
You can (please do this carefully) disconnect the battery positive and negative as well as the motor red and motor black wires and connect the Batt positive to the motor red and the Batt negative to the motor black. If the motor runs, the switch is faulty. If it doesn't then I suspect the motor needs looking at.
Best of luck!

Minn kota

Hello bombiegano. I suggest you check you wiring terminals. They could be corroded. If you have good connections next would be fising line, string or weeds jammed in rotor of your prop motor. If these suggestions fail please inform me of Mgrf.,model & serial# & we can repair the unit. Good Fishing.
