For fixing "no disc" error, you could try to use a lint-free cloth and some denatured alcohol or water to clean the disc and remove any dust or smudges that may prevent the player from reading it properly. Reinsert the disc into the player and press "Play" to see if cleaning the disc fixes the "NO DISC" error.

Try another disk, see if it plays. Try the one that won't work in another blu-ray player if possible. I tried to watch a disk I got at a redbox rental, it fouled 2 dvd players, but took it to a friend's house and it played just fine. When I went to return it, it wouldn't go back into the redbox machine. I had to try at another redbox machine and it took it. So could just be a problem with that disk.

I put the disc in and the display comes up with READ then NO DISC and ejects the disc. I have clean the drive. If I put an audio disc in it plays okay. It will not read a DVD, not sure why. can anyone...

The CD is a simpler system than DVD and requires less information to complete the codes. Replace the laser as it is out of tollerance.
Ebay stock replacement mechanisms.

Audiovox D1998 portable DVD player will no long read disc.

This of course may not be the exact same thing, but mine did the same thing. Sounding like it was loading, but in fact pressing the open button it I could see the disc not spining at all (normally you would.) With the power off of course. I took all the bottom screws out (where ever the arrow points to a screw) including to the display. There is one ribbon cable easily disconnected. I lifted the mount the DVD sits on and reseated it. I put a disc in it, turned on the power and the disc turned. Great I thought. I reconnect the cable, put the screws back in - and its working.

Disc driver not reading discs

Can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. Use CD/DVD cleaning disk
3. Disk is recorded in higher speed than your driver can read (for instance reading speed is 16, but disk is recorded on 24).
4. DVD drive is damaged or not connected properly.
Good Luck

Disc not being read on gameboy and ps2

Is the disc clean? Is the console dust free and clean? Is it well ventilated? Is disc scratched? On top or bottom? If scratched on bottom you can have it resurfaced for about $2.00 if it is scratched on top you are out of luck because that side is the memory side and the disc will not ever work again. Try to see if it will play in a PS3. If you don't have one or if you don't anyone with one try to call a game store that sells them and see if they will let you see if it will play in their PS3.

Every time i put a cd in it won't read

This indicated that the unit is having a problem reading the disc. This can be because the disc is upside down, dirty, scratched, misaligned laser, dirty laser. Try to reset and run a cleaning disc through the unit. If it still cant read it may be a mechanical issue stopping the unit from reading the disc
