Hi Peter
Old ing goes hard and blocks tiny pores
Remove the new ink cartridges and clean old ink away with methylated spirits.
Leave rag in around heads for awhile to soften up ink.
Clean gold contacts also with methylated spirits
Oops, You really have to print, selected black, till all Cyan ink is gone. This could take a while. Cleaning the head, won't solve anything.
If you really want to clean the ink out of the head and everything, you need special cleaning fluid. Refill shops do have this fluid. You should bring some cleaning fluid in the tube under the black cartridge, in the tube where the ink is going in. If you have a syringe you could try to gently press some fluid through the tube. Not to strong. could damage the head.
After placing back the black cartridge, select clean the head and let the printer do some black and withe print jobs, till the cyan is gone.
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.
In all likelihood your print head has become clogged at the black ink outlet. Be aware that printheads can BURN OUT if you keep trying to print and there's insufficient ink reaching the printhead. The ink flow is relied upon to prevent overheating of the tiny resistors at the printhead. Best bet is to remove the cartridges from the printhead and then remove the printhead and try to clean it in warm water. You will find many youtube videos on suggestions for cleaning the printheads on HP printers. Do a google search for your model. If all else fails you can order replacement printheads for the part that has failed. They are not cheap so price compare. Oftentimes they will cost nearly as much as a new printer!
Try this: take a small, sharp knife and make sure the air slit on the top of the cartridge goes all the way through the plastic.
You know that little tab you have pull off the top of the cartridge before inserting in the print head? There is a tiny slit under the tabto let air in, which is necessary to let the ink flow out. The slit is made very small so ink won't leak inadvertently out the top. Sometimes the slit doesn't go all the way through the plastic. When that happens, the ink can't flow.
I blew through that slit on a defective cartridge and no ink came out. I used a pen knife to open the slit (it doesn't take much) and then blew again. This time ink spewed out the bottom. My print test showed the black ink coming through. It was a bit spotty so I cleaned the print head and now the black ink comes out just like its supposed to.
Once you remove the ink cartridge from the printer, you can make use of the Isopropyl Alcohol, and put at maximum of 10 drops in the ink cartridge. You will find a hole there, in which the ink usually runs from the ink cartridge to the head of the printer. When done, you can put the cartridge back in the printer and run the auto cleaning process from the printer's option in order to clean the blocked holes of the cartridge. I would suggest you to run print tests first and once you are satisfied with the results, you can start using the printer normally.
If you want to go further:
Remove the tank.
Connect a hose directly on the inlet ink.
Locate the sensor of reservoir and press it to make as if a cartridge is available.
Close the cover of the print head and clean the head by injecting air (under pressure) through the pipe.
Replace the tank up and do a test print.
Repeat the procedure several times if the nozzles are clogged.
Using a syringe and some alcohol to unblock the holes can also be very effective.
Step 1: Remove the cartridge from the computer
Step 2: With the syringe, take in some alcohol and put in some drops in the tiny hole where the ink runs from the ink cartridge to the head of the printer.
Step 3: When done, put the cartridge (only where the tiny holes are found) in some warm water. If some ink runs in the water, it means that the holes have been unblocked.
Step 4: Hence, let the alcohol act for 20 minutes on the ink before putting the cartridge back in the printer.
Step 5: Run some test prints before using the printer normally.
Note: I would suggest you to do an automatic head cleaning each time before any printing task. Hence it will reduce the risk of having the print heads blocked by dried ink.
check the catridge number size if is the same with the one that come
with your printer if is not the same number then the one you buy is not
conpactable with your printer so it can work unless you get the actual
number of the one that come with the printer. but if the size is
correct then check the fixing again and fixe it properly. or you check
the printer software uninstall it then reinstall it back, also, your
can check the container the ink store in when the printer finish
printing inside the printer in some cases if their is alot of ink setle
in that container the printer will not ready so what you do is that
there is a fome in it that **** the ink bring it out and clean it very
well then put it back.
try to clean the cartige holder with a glass cleaning solution pour so the liquid makes its way and open the jamed tiny tubes which delivers the ink then dry it with a piece of cloth.
Ran into the same problem after 2 sets of ink changes. Printer made all the sounds of printing but only blank pages. Cleaned the nozzels with cleaning solution.(They wern't clogged). After reading all the posts on the internet about this problem put the printer in the garbage can Saturday and ordered a Brother laser printer from COMPUSA. Thought about the problem and decieded to try one more time to repair. I found the ink drain tube was clogged from the tray to the first connection. WHAT THAT HAS TO DO WITH ANYTHING IS BEYOND ME. I removed it and ran a tiny wire through it. Reassembled everything and printer is working fine again. You may want to check that tube.
Hi denzirelli,
Apparently several reviews of this printer say it is known for poor print quality when dealing with graphics AND the tubes can become blocked.
As far as troubleshooting goes if you haven?t done so already purchase a new set of official Brother ink jet cartridges, black and color. The newer ink jets are a lot smarter and remember the last couple of cartridge serial numbers. If that doesn?t work then try running the nozzle cleaning utility a couple of times.
If that fails call the Brother and let them walk you through the troubleshooting process. I don?t suggest you lie, just don't volunteer the fact that you were evil and tried to deprive them of their profit. Worst case they won?t do a warrantee replacement, best case is you?ll have a working printer.
If you don?t want to pursue the above option or if tech support won?t help then we?re back to troubleshooting again, when you say it doesn?t print black does that mean colors do print? If that?s the case then I suspect the black tube or the nozzles are blocked. From what I?ve read it?s a little bit of a pain to remove the print head but the key is not to disconnect the tubes. Remove the print head and the cartridge container as a unit. The ribbon cables have to be unplugged from the circuit board. Disconnect the belt and you should be able to take the print head out and clean it.
