Your computer may have a problem. Try another computer - install the driver and then connect on it. In many cases with the new operating systems like Vista and Windows 7, the driver is not necessary to install - just plug it in and it should recognize the camera as another drive to access your pictures.

Transfer pictures computer without memory card

Page 128 of the manual says:
Start the computer to which Nikon Transfer was installed.
So before you can transfer pictures to a computer you have to install software. If the software was not in the box with the camera, I'm sure you can get it for free with Nikon.
I use ViewNX2 from Nikon, and it was and still is free. You can transfer and manage the pictures on your PC. Just visit the Nikon website for the apropriate software to your camera.

I have had a Nikon CoolPix L110 for 10 months. I've never encountered a problem transferring pictures from my camera to my computer during this time...until now. When I connect my camera using the USB...

Welcome to Fixya

Try the alternate way of transferring the pictures to your computer instead of using cable.

To download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. Just drag&drop pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files.

Thanks

All the pictures on my camera are marked for transfer. But PictureProject is saying there are no new pictures to be transferred. Please advise.

PictureProject was retired quite some time ago, replaced by Nikon Transfer and Nikon ViewNX. You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from

You might want to consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
