I have a GB9SHDXPS refrigerator. The freezer works, but the top is not getting cold? I have cleaned out underneath the frig and it is still not getting cold? Any ideas, or am I shopping for a new fridge?

the first one sounds like it is slowly leaking freon.

  •  the second Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items. If it still has a problem then it might be the compressor and you should probably replace the machine.

If this appliance is new, I would suggest to contact the vendor or manufacturer and ask them for in home service.
It could be the thermostat that might be not working properly or not set properly.
Check the user manual for more info on the thermostat settings.

too much ice bulid up will stop enough cold air being blown into the fridge.Try turning it off letting all ice melt then turn it back on again and set thermostat at a lower temp. There may be ice you can't see.

It almost sounds as if your fridge is stuck in a defrost cycle.
The timer for this is often located behind the grill at the bottom and sometimes is constructed with a visible shaft that you can mark to see if it is running at all. Some units are constructed so that the defrost heater and compressor can't be on together, others are made so thoughtful. If you don't see a shaft, you might try an old mechanic's trick of using a screwdriver with the tip pressed against the timer housing and the handle pressed firmly behind your ear for bone conduction. If you hear anything like motor noise during the time the compressor is not on, then the timer is probably OK. If you hear nothing, then it might have failed.

Check the compressor.
Unplug for 15-20 min. plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will have to be behind the ref to listen and make sure you hear the compressor start and not just a fan running. If you hear a clicking noise then the compressor relay is bad.

Assuming that both freezer and refrigerator temperatures have risen and the humming sound that you heard was followed by a sudden click more than likely the start device on the compressor has gone bad. This is a common problem with all Whirlpool refrigerators (KitchenAid is Whirlpools top of the line product and suffers the same problem).

Freezer works, frig doesn't

there is a fan on many newer units that blows cold air from the freezer side to the frig. If that fan is not working, the frig will be cool, but not 34° like you want it.

Freezer cold,frig not

Hi, check and see if the condenser fan motor is still running. Sometimes while cleaning, the fan blade gets hung up and will need to be freed. Migth have knocked some dust or insolation into the fan.
You can access the fan from the back
I hope this helps you. please let me know.
