I have a first generation Maytag Neptune washer and dryer front load. The washer is making a terrible noise in the rinse cycle like an airplane taking off, and some water leakage from underneath. My Dryer from day one has sounded like a fan with a bad bearing. The store we bought it from will come out and make an adjustment and then 2 weeks later its back again. My old maytags lasted 25 years and for alot less money

You won't get near the life of your old maytags out of any machine you buy now days (average life is about 5-7 years). Your description, likely sounds like a bad tub bearing. The easiest way to verify this is pull the washer forward and crawl back behind it. Remove the screws (1/4" or 5/16", I forget which) on the access panel located in the middle back of the unit. Once you take that off, you will see a large silver pulley. Severe bearing you will see orange discolloration from where water has been leaking. Of course if yours is noise only and the leak is coming from an un-related area, you can also test by putting the machine in a spin and listening by the back pulley. BE VERY CAREFUL, THIS IS SPINNING EXTREMELY FAST AND IS VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU GET TOO CLOSE. If I am correct and the back bearing is bad, it takes 2 trained techs about 1 1/2 - 2 hours to replace the tub (which the bearing is molded into) So cost wise you'd be looking typically from the 300-500 range for replacement. The part itself is usually 150-250 of the price depending on where it is purchased from. I'm sorry I know this isn't the answer you hoped to hear, and I do hope that I am off target, but this will save you a service call fee by doing a simple check. If I am right and you want to keep using your unit until you can afford a new one, there are plastic pans availible a local appliance parts stores and even some harware stores you can set the unit in to keep it from leaking on the floor. This is an inexpensive alternative while saving up and still getting your laundry done.

1 - Select Wash/Rinse Water Temperature
2 - Select Options (Max Extract, Extra Rinse, Signa)
3 - Select Cycle
4 - Load the Clothes Washer (add detergent on top of the load in the tub, and additives [fabric softener, bleach] in their dispensers).

This is according to the owner's manual I have. Has worked for 14 years for me.

Is there any kind of recall on a Maytay front loading washer, model #MAH6500AWW? I am having problems with mildew in the rubber part and terrible smelling water in the bottom.

The cleaning process for your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer, for example, requires some time and patience. Over time, your washing machine will need to be cleaned. It can develop offensive odors through multiple wash cycles. This makes the washing machine less effective at cleaning the clothes you put into it. Maytag offers some sound advice for cleaning your front-loading washing machine.
  • Pour 2/3 cup of liquid chlorine bleach into the bleach compartment of the dispenser drawer of your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer.

  • 2

Run your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer on the "Clean Washer" setting. Press "Start" to start the cycle.

  • 3

Leave the door open once the cycle is complete to allow the inside of your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer to ventilate and air dry.

  • 4

Look closely at the gray seal of the Maytag Neptune front-loading washer's door opening. This seal can have a buildup of debris or detergent residue.

  • 5

Spray the seal with an all-purpose appliance cleaner and scrub away any debris or residue with a cloth or scrubbing pad. Dry with a clean cloth.

  • 6

Remove the soap dispenser drawer. Press the release lever and lift it out to clean.

  • 7

Take out the inserts and rinse them and the drawer thoroughly.

  • 8

Wash with a mild soap and cloth to remove any residue. Dry thoroughly before replacing.

  • ALWAYS LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN WHEN NOT IN USE! This prevents the mold and mildew from forming once you get it cleaned.

    Loud noise

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary

    Hope it may help you;
