Test the humidistat-- by taking one of the wires off one of the screws, and touching it to the other-
Does the unit come on?-- Then possibly the humidistat is bad.

I should have mentioned that the dial of my humidistat goes from 1 to 7, past 7 is the test function. I normally have kept it at 5. since it does not go on now I raised it to the test function and then I can hear it running. But when I back it off, at about mid way between 6 and 7, the humidifier stops. Thanks for your assistance!
Also, it has the outdoor sensor (and I never touched that)
