If its leaking steady from the unloading valve on the pressure switch after the compressor stops you have a bad check valve!replace it and youl be fine,dont forget to depressurize your tank before!!!!! and use teflon tape on the treads to avoid air leaks when you replace it!

you might need to checktosee if the filter is blocked or dirty were the air intake is just like a car dirt can build up there.

'When the machine is shut off, disconnect the discharge line out of the head of the compressor. If air releases, replace discharge check valve in tank.

SOURCE: Air compressor won't build pressure

If this unit has what appears to be a pipe with fins on it , you may have a ruptured inter-cooler which will be leaking where you stated.

SOURCE: craftsman 3 gal air compressor - no air presssure

Check the head gasket. Mine just did the same thing. Mine was blown between the two chambers on top. It's very thin right there. I went to the auto parts store and bought some gasket and made my own for about $6. It's up a working great...finally. BTW the gasket kit is on back order right now at Sear's parts website. It appears we aren't the only ones with the problem!

*Electricity...Compressors will run best with full 115Vot 15AMP/Or 220V electrical supply from a circuit, over the shortest electrical cord as possible.

*Air Leaks..Place your ear close to the compressor and listen for air leaking, if you hear air that is not normal and means you have to locate and repair whatever it is that is leaking.
*Check the air unloader valve... The air unloader valve will blown out air when you turned off the compressor, that is normal.
But it should not have air leaking out of it all of the time. If so then it is faulty and in need of repair/replacement.

Why my air compressor want shut off after building up pressure

If it is building up to the full rated pressure and there are no air leaks in the hoses then it is most likely the pressure switch. It is item 111 in this parts diagram.

The compressor only builds up pressure to 45 psi and constantly runs. The problem started after it was left on for 2 days straight.

Compressor reaches upper pressure limit of 120 psi but does not shut down or increase in pressure. When manually shut off at near 120 psi it will hold pressure for extended time.
