Lost my power brick for Maxtor 3100 100 gb external hard drive. need specifications to buy new unit

all external hard drives that need a power adapter use 12v

You can remove the disk-drive from the unit,

to buy a new enclosure, which will include a new power-cable,
and 'transplant' your disk-drive into the new unit,
to regain access to the files on your disk-drive.

You can buy another external housing and then just swap the hard drive itself over to the new housing. The housing only cost in the 30 buck range if not cheaper. If you need to get the data off, you can also buy an EIDE/SATA to USB adapter that will allow the connection between an unhoused hard drive and a computer. CompUSA sells them for around 20-25 bucks.

Software downloads are available from the Seagate support site. Here is a link to the download page for Maxtor OneTouch III family. It should provide the latest version of all software that came with the new unit.

In short, others have had great difficulty buying Maxtor replacement power adapters, however you can buy a generic 12V, 3A DC power supply for $15-20 from a number of sources. Confirm your actual power requirements by referring to the product label on the drive itself.

Hope that helps, i am trying to get my Maxtor External II working now too, I think it's a power supply, cause it wants to keep installing the driver, but the driver is already there. Hmmm anybody?

To connect your disk to pc you need a standard usb cable, you can buy it from pc world, dixon or maplin for 7-10 pounds. If instead you have lost the power supply then you need to get a new power adaptorIn that case it will be more complicated , easiest thing is buying proper one on ebay.
