Question about Salter 2001 electronic kitchen scale
Below is a solution for the "Out2" error on the Salter scales.
I have a Salter Model 1400. It was dropped and started to display the "out2" error on the LCD display. I looked for solutions on-line but could not find anything which showed a solution. With no solution in hand I figured I would at least try to find out if my scale was salvageable. I removed the screws, there are two below the 9V battery, two under the footpads, two under the "model sticker", and two larger screws holding the scale plate to the base. After all the screws are successsfull removed, the case of the scale comes apart easily. I started looking at the small circuit board and looked for damage, and also tried several things, turned on and off the unit while it was apart but still saw the "out2" error. I then removed the circuit board, there are many screws holding it down. Looking at the LCD display, I noticed that there must be proper contact between the LCD display and the copper contacts on the circuit board, or nothing is displayed. Perhaps, "out2" is an indication that it can not display "out" anything because after it was dropped the LCD display moved enough that it no longer aligned with the contacts on the circuit board. I noticed that there is quite a bit of "play" or area of movement around the LCD display and the case. There were no cracks or damage so I assume that the loose LCD display is common even with a scale that was not dropped. I was able to align the LCD display, by moving it several times and realized that after pressing the ON button, I no longer saw the out2 error. So I decided to put something in between the LCD display and the case so that the LCD display would not move and therefore would align. It took some playing around, but I eventually took a very small piece of papertowl, about the size of my thumbnail and rolled it up and placed it between the LCD display so it made the LCD display snug and would no longer move around. I screwed on the circuit board, and voila, no more out2 error! It started working perfectly.

I have had this error (out2) on my Salter scales model 1035 following a battery change.
I have contacted Salter.
They said there is no fix available. Not good.
I have had to purchase new scales but avoided that brand. The replacement has been tested by removing its batteries and replacing after about an hour. Should it have throw the error it would be returned to the shop while I have the receipt to hand.

Thanks Colin. I think your comment will be helpful to some users of the Salter balances. The problem with my unit was the RAM memory for the unit's calibation had been lost during the battery change. If good voltage had been available prior to the change it is possible to swap the battery (quickly). The method fails when the old battery is below some voltage.

I have a salter 1036 kitchen scales, the error message out2 came up then another error message and was not able to set to zero or weigh. I noticed a small amount of water on top of the lcd display.
I carefully removed the model lable on the back to reveal two fixing screws, undid these and took the unit apart. I used a small screw driver to remove the circuit board which revealed corrosion on some of the components on the board. I carefully brushed this away using an old toothbrush, dried up the water using a tissue, put it back together and it now works fine.
I find it suprising that there is no form of seal to prevent water ingress from the lcd display and the buttons to select units and to set zero on a good make like this.

Same error message - Out 2 - on my scales, but accessing the board is simpler on my version of the model - held in place by just one screw to be found behind the single footpad at the control-end of the underside. Suggest you start there. Unscrew this, and then push through the hole with a thin diameter screwdriver and the control panel lifts out.
The circuit board can then be exposed by undoing the 5 tiny screws. The damp can be subtle. I played a hairdryer on it for a few minutes and it did the job.
Good luck!
