You haven't told us what keyboard you have... HOWEVER the pedal itself will have no effect on the length of sustain as long as it is held. The decay of the sustain is controlled by a parameter in the keyboard itself and some allow it to be adjusted and others do not. We have no way of knowing about yours as you didn't tell us which you have.

Casio Keyboard CTK700 The sound does not sustain when the key is pressed for 4 notes. How to rectify the same

sustain is typcially a product of the sound you have chosen, If you have a sustain pedal you can sustain any sound. you may also have some choices on the switches that allow special sustain, but I dont own a casio keyboard (I have yamaha) but they are nearly the same in operation. The easiest way to get controllable sustain is by plugging in a sustain pedal

Switch on e50 and sustain pedal not holding notes

I assume you are plugging this into a ROLAND brand product as the Roland sustain uses a normally CLOSED contact while MOST other brands use NORMALLY OPEN contacts.

The Roland synths now monitor the pedal as the power is turned on and supposedly decides which contact type is used.

Remember that for MANY voices, such as piano, notes are held longer BUT they do not continue indefinitely just like the sustain on a real piano works. On a real piano the dampers are lifted, but the strings eventually stop ringing due to the losses of energy in the strings.

Some voices will be held, such as organ tones.

I don't have enough information from your post regarding what voice you are having trouble with.

A bought an Yamaha DGX 640 grand a week before and the note sustain for a longer duration and overlaps with the current playing notes. I checked the sustain in the function setting and it is also showing ...

The function setting is for the PANEL sustain (Page 68 of your manual)

The other method of sustain is by footswitch or pedal option. See page 13.

If you use a footswitch, it needs to be a normally open contact type. If you plug a Roland type in, it is opposite polarity and will sustain UNLESS the pedal is pressed. Make sure nothing else is plugged in the sustain jack... headphones that are inadvertently plugged in there would sustain.

Is a sustain foot pedal similar to a tattoo machine pedal?

The sustain pedals have only two wires. Usually they terminate in a 1/4 inch mono plug.

yamaha USUALLY sustains when switch is closed. Roland usually sustains on a switch between the wires when the switch is open.

NO POWER should be supplied BY the sustain pedal... it is ONLY a switch.

Sustain Pedal Opposite Effect

I found that if I plug in the sustain pedal BEFORE turning the power on, it works fine. If I plug in the sustain pedal AFTER turning the power on, then it works in the opposite way. Probably just the design. So I would try playing with that before doing anything drastic.

Looking for the "sustain" feature

I don't think there is a setting for this directly, but there is an optional sustain pedal you can plug into it.
