How To Change The Bulb In An Advantium 900 Watt Microwave

You'll need to open the door, and remove the screws that hold the microwave face to the cabinet face.
Next, you'll need to remove the microwave from the enclosure. Remove the metal shroud that encases the microwave, and the bulb may then be replaced. Reversing the process gets you back to where you started.
After the second time of pulling the microwave out, I measured and cut a hole in the sheet metal shroud, larger than the access to the light fixture. I bought a metal electrical box cover, and used sheet metal screws to completely cover the hole. This allows me to slide the microwave out about 6" to access the light, instead of the lengthy process of removing the microwave entirely. If you decide to do this, I recommend that you mark the sheet metal while the shroud is loosely fit on the microwave, and cutting your hole away from the microwave, to avoid getting metal filings into the microwave.
Your bulb is a 120 volt halogen, 35 watts with a GY8.6 base. I bought mine at Lowe's, and their item number is 15797, manufactured for Bright Effects. When installing the new bulb, be careful not to touch the bulb, as the oil on your fingers is enough to degrade the bulb, and it will not last as long as it should. Instead, wrap the bulb in toilet paper or a paper towel, leaving the terminals on the base protruding.
Sorry for the bad news, but glad that I could offer a better alternative. By the way, a technician will do the same thing, without the hole, for about $200.

FGMV205K cover removal

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that you want to know how to remove the cover on your Frigidaire microwave, model# FGMV205K. There are two different covers that you are able to remove for access to two different light bulbs.

If you are trying to change the Microwave Oven Light for inside your microwave:

1)To replace light bulb, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.

2)Remove the louver by removing the three Hood Louver Screws.

3)Push in the upper tabs and pull the louver away from your appliance.

4)Remove the light bulb and replace with a new 20 watt light bulb. DO NOT USE BULB LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.

5)Close the Oven Light Cover by carefully pushing into place. Push the louver back into place (engaging both the bottom and top tabs) and change to hood Louver Screws.

If you are trying to change the light bulbs underneath your Microwave:

1)To replace light bulbs, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.

2)To open Light Cover, remove the screw on the light cover.

3)Replace the light bulbs with new 20 watt light bulbs. DO NOT USE BULBS LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.

4)Close the Light Cover and secure with screw removed at step 2.

If further troubleshooting is needed, I ask that you please let me know the error codes displayed on your appliance. Hope this is helpful.

      -Best Regards-

When the microwave is cooking the light inside dims. When done cooking the light returns to full brightness. Is that normal or is there a problem with the microwave?

I've seen this with most microwave ovens I've had. When the microwave emitter kicks in to cook, the unit uses much more power, providing less to the internal bulb, which dims a bit. Unless it's very dramatic, for example the bulb turning off or going almost out, it's normal behavior. If the bulb is going very dim or out, it could be that the circuit it's connected to isn't providing enough amperage to adequately run the oven. In the case of your microwave, it's rated at 15 amps, so should have adequate power on a standard household circuit by itself.

I have an older model Amana microwave Radarange mvh110E and wondering what are the watts? Can you help? Janie Staunton, VA [email protected]

see the definitions and how to calculate: God bless you
The Watt is a measure of power or how much energy is released per second. It can be shortened to W.
1 Watt can be written 1W.
We can calculate the power released in a bulb by multiplying the voltage in Volts across the bulb by the current in Amps flowing through the bulb (W = V x I).

When I turn on microwave oven fuse is burn out right a way. Thank you

Fuses burn for a reason: because the circuit is being overloaded. There could be several causes, first determine what else goes off when the fuse blows. All of the things that go off when the fuse is removed/blown/burnt are on the same circuit. A microwave is a heavy load, somewhere between 750 watts and 2000 watts, depending on the microwave. Remove other heavy loads (items which use lots of power) from the circuit. A 15 amp 120 volt circuit in a residence is good for 1800 watts (or 1440 watts continuously). If you had a 1500 watt microwave and four 100 watt light bulbs on the same circuit, you would be overloading the circuit. With a microwave, it is best to have it on its own circuit with nothing else (if possible). The fuse may also blow or burn in this situation if there is a problem with the microwave.

Trouble shoot microwave

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Also, are any other of your electrical items (light bulbs, DVDs, etc.) failing lately? This could indicate improper power line voltage.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.
