Windows 7 wireless connectivity issue. wpa psk not available. wpa tkip does not work with my system and other computers. I am electrically and mechanically competent, but a marginal illiterate with computers. By double entering my wireless site on the laptop, 1 with 802.1x wep encryption, it will 50% of times hook up. Router is wpa psk.

Are you at home, we cant guess wifi hot spots or the like.
it must be said, at home its a router,
and question 2 is , is it yours or MR , ISP's ???
if its yours than you are in charge.
The first thing to do is turn off WEP in any router, its insecure.
a great hazard that on.
set your rourter to wpa/wpa2
then using that laptop do the same, it will discover it and use what is broadcast from the router.
use a key pass word that others cant guess,
bam your in if not too far away, you never said how fare
1meter, 10 meters , 100 meters?
or router is behind brick or concrete walls...
we use router repeaters for that wifi. problem.

first off wifi is complex and very unreliable in the city..
(too many there, all fighting for 10 channels)
use wired, connections, unless mobile is badly needed.

my guess is you will ask how to setup a the unstated router.

learn that wep is not wpa.
they are not the same encryption at all.
wep has been cracked and is no good.

SOURCE: Vista wireless networking

What appears to be working is changing from TKIP to AES.
So far so good.

How do you write an ASCII network encryption key?

Hello. Wireless security strength depends on the mode of encryption you are going to use (WEP, WPA-PSK [TKIP], WPA2-PSK [AES], WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]).
WPA-PSK should be enough to secure your Wireless network.

ASCII - Choose from any key available on the keyboardHexadecimal - Characters ( 0~9 and A~F)

  • Before setting up wireless security on the router, make sure the computer you are going to use to setup wireless security is directly connected to the router using an Ethernet cable(wired).

  • To setup wireless security on the router, access the router user by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser and then press Enter.
  • Enter admin for the router user name and your password (or the default, password).
11_25_2011_5_49_11_am.png
  • Choose Wireless Settings from the Menu on the left.
11_25_2011_5_52_11_am.jpg
  • Select WPA-PSK under Security Options. Input the Passphrase.
Passphrase can be 8~63 Hexadecimal characters or 8~63 ASCII characters.
Take note of the passphrase then click Apply.
Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

Muddytrying to go to netflix, from my WII says my internet connection is not working, but my laptop in on and working.

Greetings,

Did you recently change your encryption or password on your wireless network? It may not work if you are not using one of the following encryption types:
  • WEP
  • WPA - PSK (TKIP)
  • WPA - PSK (AES)
  • WPA2 - PSK (AES)
Try re-entering your wireless settings on the Wii to match the settings on your laptop.

HOW TO SET UP SECURITY

Hi Friend,

Please follow the steps:

1.Click Start\Run\ type cmd and hit enter.
2.Type ipconfig and hit enter (in the black window)
3.Note down the default gateway and exit from the black window.
4.Open the web browser and type that default gateway in the address bar and hit enter.
5.Enter the username and password if prompted.
6.Click Wireless and click Security and select WPA from the dropdown
7.Select TKIP in Cipher type and PSK in PSK/EAP
8.Enter any ten digit number as Passphrase and confirm it again and click Apply. this will help you to enable security on your router. You can use this passphrase whenever you try to connect any wireless devices to the router.

I hope this will resolv the issue.

Need to enable security -- had a power failure -- the computer with direct cable connection has internet access, but my laptop with a wireless connection no longer works -- says the network "is unsecured...

Log in to the router, check Wireless settings, Security is in the same area. I find that WPA-PSK[TKIP] is the easiest type to use, as you can use pretty much any sort of password longer than 7 characters. This can be done with the wired connection.

I have a Netgear wireless router DG834G and i am trying to connect a wireless Brother printer and it is asking me if it is No Authentication or Encryption, No Authentication with WEP Encryption,...

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router so as to check the network key:

1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
2. Access the router usually http://192.168.0.1 else try http://www.routerlogin.com
3. Login to the router with the Username as admin and password as password (unless you have changed it).
4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the routers' wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the passphrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Card only connects for a few seconds then disconnects

Start-> Run -> CMD [Enter]
ipconfig [enter]

list this information...

Try switching the key to WPA-PSK WPA2-PSK TKIP/AES which will allow for the usage of either types of encryption protocols, hence more chance for a successful connection. The repair feature in windows hardly ever works and all it does usually is:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

But if nothing else works you could try resetting winsock in a cmd prompt:
netsh winsock reset [enter] [restart]

Security connectivity issues

is the PC connection you're able to maintain once upgraded to WPA a PC that is physically connected to the router? if so, that would make sense because WPA (and WEP for that matter) are only wireless security protocols and have no protections for hard-wired connections.

In order to convert your system to WPA security, you must first make sure all of your hardware is WPA compatible (that isWPA Drivers are available for it).

For your PC wireless connection, if you're running Windows XP you can go to the microsoft website and download the WPA client. It is available in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 815485. install the update and reboot. you will then be able to enable WPA security on your client.

Then you'll possibly need to update the drivers for your hardware for WPA support (router, wireless NIC, etc) if they did not already come enabled.

next you get to configure the router for WPA. you'll want to make sure you're set to WPA with preshared keys (no authentication server required), use TKIP as the algorhythm, and leave group key renewal at it's default value. and of course Select a key that is not likely to be guessed. write the key down as you'll need to configure your NIC using it.

to configure your NIC, once you're in the configuration menu select WPA-PSK for your authentication, TKIP for the encryption mode, in data encryption set it to TKIP, and in the network key put the key you selected earlier.

At this point you should be able to access your wireless router (or other access point). These instructions were kind of generic since i do not have the specific router you're using available to me, but the settings i discussed should be pretty universal when it comes to WPA security.

Laptop cannot connect to router with WPA-PSK security

What I believe here is you are not typing in the pass-phrase(wireless password) correctly.

Go to 192.168.1.1 log on to the router ,in wireless section you will find the pass phrase,, create a new one and then try to connect.
