I have a Lexmark 7170, that I just hooked up to my new tower. I don't use the phone jack for faxing through the computer, but was unaware that I had to update the printer, besides there is no place on my tower for a phone jack anyway. I went to the PC Help for downloads and something happened that my computer added everything from Microsoft, Vista, XP, and also Windows 7, so after doing all that my printer still won't work on anything I want to print off of my computer. Can you tell me what to do in layman's terms as I am somewhat a beginner, and don't want tobe taking my computer in for stupid mistakes on my part. I also have a JVC Camcorder, but lost the cord to take my photo's off plus my motion pictures which I''ve had on for a couple of years. I went to Furture Shop, but they sold me the wrong kind even when I took my camera in to show them what I needed. Even then I will probably need your help to put them in the proper place on my computer and directions as to which icon will make that happen,

hi: I followed your instructions as per your request and went to my control panel, selected it, and followed up by using one of two types of scans, One that said: fix this and the other one said bypass this option and go ahead, but nothing happened. It came back with the answer that I was supposed to intall the latest driver for this device. So where do I go from here?

Let me try to fix the printer first.
1. Go to control panel>printers and look at the icon of your printer. What does it have under it? Ready? Online? Offline? Is there a check mark for default printer? Right click the icon and select which option fixes it. Work online, make default printer, ETC. Click apply and then ok. Let me know if this gets you going and then I can try to give you some options on the cable. You can buy an adapter kit from Walamart that has different types of plugs to usb. Thanks for using FixYa and let me know what happens.

Take out the whole program and restart your computer. Go to Start>control panel>add/remove or uninstall a program depending on your operating system. Remove the program and restart your computer. Then go to lexmark.com and click on support/downloads click on select your product I put in Lexmark X7170 on this page:
    http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=...

Copy and paste this into your browser/search bar and hit enter.
This should have the latest and greatest drivers.

On lexmark 7170 printer-when trying to fax-always get ''phone line error''-- connection is good from directline--phone works- Can't fax even without using pc I am using a Lexmark7170 printer with windows...

Hello. The "phone line error" usually comes up when the printer/fax is not connected properly to the fax line. Try to check behind the printer. There are two phone ports - Ext. and Line. The telephone cable should be plugged in to the Line port of the printer and the other end should go straight to the phone jack in the wall. If it is, try to use a different phone cable. Also, make sure that you assigned the correct fax number in your printer. Hope this helps.

Hooking up cables and phone line to use the Fax on the P3150

Find a telephone wall-jack.
Buy a 1-to-2 telephone-splitter -- one end plugs into the wall-jack, and the other end provides 2 telephone-jacks.

Connect your telephone to one of those 2 jacks.
Connect your All-In-One to the other of those 2 jacks.
Be sure to use a 4-wire telephone-cable, not an 8-wire network-cable.

Hi Brenda,

Your All In One wants a phone line hooked directly to it. It won't fax without a "POTS" line directly hooked to it. POTS stands for "Plain Old Telephone Service" which is the line with good old dial tone on it.

Can't receive incoming faxes!

It sounds like maybe the printer is not picking up the incoming call. Check to see that the printer is the first thing connected to the phone jack. If you have DSL you will need to plug the printer into the "phone" side of the DSL filters that you have on all your phone jacks.
If you have an answering machine it should be plugged into the printer's phone jack - not the other way around. The printer is smart enough to pick up fax calls and pass voice calls on to the answering machine if you get it hooked up right. Check the user's guide for more specifics.
