When I try and use the winch all I get is a clicking sound from the control box. The winch motor will not engage in or out. When the winch clutch is placed in the out position I can free spool the cable out.

Cause:

• There is grease, dirt or rust between the outside of the sliding ring gear and the inside of the gear housing.

Possible Solution:

• Clean the surfaces of the sliding ring gear and gear housing.
• Coat the surfaces lightly with oil. Do not grease.

If your wiring a remote control to the winch or inside control,,, 4 solinoids type,,make sure the solinoids have ground on the brown wire(warn)...if you don't have a ground all it will do is click,,,even if power is applyed

If motor runs in one direction motor is not burned out.
Solenoid clicks, solenoid is ok.
Most likely points on solenoid on one side. If you can get to it, then look at the points.
To check , reverse battery terminals then click. the reverse should work and the other not. This will prove the points are bad on one side. .
In that case, you have to take it apart put in new points or get new switch.

There should be a black connection on the winch. This is ground or -. There is a red. it is +. Find a battery and jumper cable, connect on all but one terminal. Tlouch and the motor should spin.
This proves the motor runs. Then connect the control, and this will prove the control.works (cables connected firmly and the control is used to run forward and backward.

This winch should simple straight foward hook up. Your big red & black wires should hook straight to your battery. Red (+) black (-) if there is no fuse on the wires put at least a 20 amp.fuse close to your battery. These are the main power suply. They will go in a.small black box. Also coming out of the black box will be the wires that run to the cable in & out switch.and there should be one heavy ga. Wire going to the winch motor. Make sure the wire is good and clean when you hook it to the winch motor. Do not over tighten the nut . Just give a good snuging down. As for your solenoid box. That should be the little black box that your main power wires go into and controle wires come out of..

The only thing it could be is the conrtol wire of the A/C compressor clutch relay is shorted to one of the wires grounding at the alternator . The PCM - engine computer controls the grounding for the A/C compressor clutch relay. Find the A/C compressor clutch relay in the under hood fuse box , pull the relay out of the fuse box an look on the bottom . You will see four sets of numbers . 30 & 87 plus 85 & 86 . Take an ohm meter an check pin 85 to ground with the ground wire's behide the alternator connected , you will have continuity . Disconnect the ground behind the alternator an you will probably have a open circuit . When the motor was changed wire's were pinched or something . Most likely . Under system click on HVAC , then under subsystem click on HVAC controls . Click the search button ,then the blue link . Fourth diagram down is for the A/C compressor clutch relay circuit. Don't know if know how a computer controlled relay circuit work's . Looking at the diagram .The DB/OR - dark blue with orange trace wire would have to be shorted to one of those ground wire's for the compressor clutch to stay engaged .

40. (00101000) Bowl Dis-engage Fault
While carrying out a bowl check, the Motor Control Module has found that the bowl is not
engaged even though the pressure sensor indicates that the bowl is empty. The Motor
Control Module continues to check for 2 minutes, after which time it displays this fault. The
first two areas to check are the clutch and the pressure tube. If these two appear correct,
then the fault could be in the pressure sensor in the Motor Control Module.
Primary Source: Mechanical.
Action: 1) Check that there are no clothes or other foreign objects preventing
the clutch from re-engaging. Excessive suds can stop the bowl
rotating.
2) If the machine is empty of water, carry out a clutch disassembly
procedure and check the spline drive.
3) Next check that the pressure tube has not come off and that it is
not kinked.

Action: Replace Motor Control Module.

When you turn the dial to 4 wheel drive it controls a solonoid unit that then controls the electric motor that shifts the trasfer case to 4X4. The clicking sound that you are hearing is probobly the solonoid unit (4x4 control unit) engaging or trying to engage the trasfer case motor. From what I,ve heard the solonoid unit is located behind the plastic panel that is under the glove box and before the passenger side door. Moisture can build up in that area and ruin the solinoid unit over time. Check any fuses that have any thing to do with the 4x4. If the solonoid unit or fuses is not the problem, I would check the wireing to the electric transfer case motor and the motor itself. Good luck and God bless!

pull the secondary clutch apart on the winch and clean with emory cloth or sand paper and u should see a change in this problem
