The latest is a FPOS1800A that I installed a month ago only to find the sump hole filled with steaming water this morning.... the hole is 4-5 feet deep. Other than buying a different brand today what can I do?

If the oil pump is new, then confirm the oil pressure sensor is accurate by slapping a mechanical gauge in place of the sesnor. If the pressure still reads low on the mechanical gauge, then you have severe bearing wear requiriing a rebuild.

I figure that the air pocket activates the pump when it is in the up position.

This is normal .It should definitely burnt off in a few hours.
Normally the heat exchanger is coated with a corn oil so it wouldn't get damage while sitting in their warehouse for too long.

do an ohms test on wiring loom if any higher than approx 5ohms when everything is disconnected bad connection. this can still show good voltage but pump not getting enogh amps(current) so it burns out windings in pump
are old pumps open circuit?
test with ohms meter
if so check that wiring and connector pin tensions

The armature windings have an overlay problem in the wiring causing this and there is no soluation except to replace the armature which is not cost efective unless you are still under Warrantee and get a free replacement, it will burn up at some point. If you bought it within the last month take it back and get a new one, over one month, pack it back up in the original box and send it to address in the owners manual for repair or replacement service addresses.

the retailer is correct, you can only play the tunes that you have downloaded on the one pc and an ipod because of the licenses that are downloaded with the songs.
