I bought my protron pdv 700 portable dvd player in Asia. Now when back in europe, when I start it, the screen shows WRONG REGION. Under set up I found the oprion tv system. It was set on NTSC whereas I need PAL. Getting PAL activated however does not work. Can you help me? Thanks Marc.

your dvd is not multi region

ribbon loose connection..try to resolder connector terminals and realign ribbon connection..

when buying batteries, just bring your battery as sample or have a tech to check you unit or battery substitute if ever you can't find one.

To check the software version and change
region code of your DVD Portable

1. Power ON the DVD player and open the DVD
door
2. Press the “SETUP” button on remote control,
then select the “Preference MENU”
3. Press the remote button in the sequence as
9 -> 6 -> 5 -> 3
4. The LCD display showed the existing region
code. Press (navigation up) or
(navigation down) repeatedly to select the
number from 0 to 6.
5. Refer below table for your region code setting
Region
1=USA
2=Europe
3=Asia Pacific
4=Australia, New Zealand
5=Russia, India
6=China

Select “0” setting = Region Free (confidential)

uk dvds are formatted in PAL
us dvds are NTSC
find your settings screen (usually has a wrench to identify it)

The 4:3 is an aspect ratio the ratio of horizontal to vertical size and the non-HDTV standard; the latter is 16:9.
The PAL and NTSC abbreviations refer to the picture and synchronization standards whereby NTSC is the American standard and the PALs are European. The setting "sp-raw" refers to an unprocessed video format that requires further processing before it can be viewed.
If the disk you have was made for the American market, you should be set to NTSC and the aspect ratio to whatever the disk is specified, most recent disks will be made to conform to HD specifications, but may also  be viewed in "letterbox" form which is a shrunken 16:9 box with pronounced edges around it.   

1. Open Device Manager.
   
2. Double-click DVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click the DVD drive for which you want to change region settings, and then click Properties.
   
3. On the DVD Region tab, make the appropriate changes

Did I get you right, 200 pcs of brand new Protron PDV700 DVD Portable Player?

In any case, chances are the problem is the switching 5V regulator which supplies the logic circuitry or any part of the circuitry of the power supply.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
