I have a Kenwood DV-605 dvd changer. It powers on but stops when "loading" is on the screen disc 1. The changer drawer would not close so I took the cover off and found how to close it. I read on your site where someone said to move the tray to get it to work again, but that did not solve the problem. I found in the manual how to reset to factory defaults, but that did nothing either. What is next?

1) The tray is not completely in the loaded position and the "clamper" is rubbing. Replace the loading belt and the loading sequence will complete and the noise should stop.
2) The "CD table" that is part of the spindle motor assembly has slipped a bit. This will make the CD/DVD ride too low and strike the lower tray support. This will require that the table be "re-aligned" to the proper height which may not be possible on your model without special measurement equipment. The height is critical to proper operation of the unit.
Try replacing the load belt first and report your results.
We repaired this problem by taking the advice of another member of FixYa! The component had recently been packed to be shipped. After unpacking the unit when we powered up the read out only displayed "LOADING" and the CD changer door would not open. We removed the exterior cover and gently moved the CD changer one position. When it locked back into position we powered up and the unit works fine now. FixYa sure help me save perhaps a $100. or more by not sending it to the manufacturer or another shop. And it was working within minutes so we could enjoy using it right away. Thanks guys I very much will recommend this sevice to others... this was the 2nd problem we fixed that day by logging onto FixYa!!!
Solution: Unplug power from wall. (Don't just turn off!) Next: Remove exterior case. Now gently turn the CD changer clockwise one position. Power up and try again.
I had this same problem after unit appeared to have froze up when unpacked from a shipping box. The CD changer had got off track and by gently moving the CD changer 1 position it fixed the problem. Works fine now.
Try the following when the error is on the screen, press the number 1 key on the remote, this should take you to the fist chapter of your DVD no matter which region it is
I have a similar issue with my DV-605 as well. When the unit power on, I can hear the motor trying to start, but the DVD does not spin. Being the adventurous type, I opened the case and turned the DVD drive motor a few revolutions by hand and then the dvd played. I think I need a new DVD drive motor. You may as well....
I just fixed mine. Same scenario, with the loading and #1 displayed. The tray changer was jammed.
Take the cover off the unit and gently convince the changer to spin. It will go *crack* and then exhibit free-play. Turn the machine back on and voila it works.
I'm now watching Braveheart on 480p on 55"widescreen!!!!!
