That is the spec range for this radio. You may be able to find instructions to operate "out of band" on "www.mods.dk".

You can probably find it on www.mods.dk - you may pay a small fee, but they have manuals for most ham radios.

Turn your VX-5 off, then press Band + HM/RV + TX PO and turn on.

Check the frequency step setting. If you have it set to 12.5kHz it's possible that's forcing the nfm mode.

Carfully clean the contacts on the battery and the power contacts on the radio. I have had the same problem, and this fixed it for me.

figured out how to solve this, with the radio off, push and hold both up and down scan buttons, while powering the radio on. This will fix the problem.
