I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that I purchased about 10 years ago for about $400. I used it about a year and it started making a weird sound and basically locked on me. I bought new batteries and that didn't help. The warranty had already run out and when I called customer service they told me it would be about $80 just for them to take a peek at it and then the cost of the repair. I didn't and still don't have that kind of money laying around. (since then I have had 3 kids and am a stay at home mom. I was taking a photography class at the time thinking I might get into the photography business but when I saw how expensive the equipment is I said forget that :) There was another poster in May of 2008 who had a similar problem but was advised to take it and have it looked at. Sounds like it might be an issue with this type of camera? Is my camera worth anything if I tried to post it on ebay? I noticed they are selling for around $100 in working condition on Amazon. Do you have any idea what the lens itself might be worth? I am still camera ignorant and have no idea what kind it is. This is what it says it has a 0 with a slash thru it and then a 58 and then Sigma Zoom 28-105 mm 1:4-5.6 UC II It has manual and auto focus. I just wondered if I could sell it for parts or it might be fixable but I doubt someone would want to pay almost $100 to fix it if it's only worth that.
Go for it! People sell thousands of broken items for parts all the time on eBay.
As an experienced eBay seller, I have sold many things that I am unsure of. Yes, you can sell it for parts, but offer it at a low starting bid with no reserve and just get what you can get. Even if it is worth only ten dollars, it's fun to sell on eBay and part of the fun is to offer and get good deals! Your description should explain the camera's history and that the lens is still good. Used and in working order items, usually sell for 1/4 their original price. Take a couple good photos to post with your listing. It has manual and auto focus." Remember it's good to purge and it's not worth anything sitting in your drawer.
EBAY HINT: List on a seven day auction ending on a Monday evening in the beginning of a month for maximum price.
