HP Inkjet CP 1700 Inop

I have a customers 1700, and it has a display that just shows a few dots, and now the USB and Parallel ports do not respond. I removed the suspected parts and checked for cold solder joints and pinched wires, no help. What are the part numbers for the display and the PCB that contains the parallel port? Any other idea's since I can't see any information?

The CP1700 LED was a problem for HP. This part is no longer available from HP. Machine will function fine without however when a problem occurs you won't have a clue what the machine is asking for....more than likely it will be asking for a specific printhead or cartridge.

This problem is not an issue in the Business Inkjet 2800. LED is much different

The digital readout on the CP1700 is a problem. I have replaced mine now 4 times at a cost of $90 each time, and I'm going to have to do it again or get the new 2800. Just wonder if the 2800 is going to have the same defect.

WHY DOT MATRIX PRINTER NOT PRINTING DOS BASE PRINTS

It can't.
DOS printing need LPTx parallel port because DOS don't understand/support USB.

YOU can share the printer with windows printer driver, then
go to CMD prompt
Type
Net use lpt1 \\<computername>\<printersharename>
Then print DOS job to LPT1

USB Port Dell 1700 Printer

On the back side of the printer (left side) below the parallel port and below the LAN (ethernet) port is the USB port. It looks like a barn door. The cable you would need to use is an A/B USB cable. it has the standard rectangular usb port on one end and the funny barn door that is used by printers and scanners on the other end. I hope this helps.

How can I use this printer with a laptop that does not have a parallel port?

Hello there, Im Nathan there are few things you can do.

Check if that printer has a usb cable or if it came with one if not then.

You can connect that printer to the laptop by looking for a parallel to usb adapter .

HP LaserJet II p Plus will not print. note spam website posted by john brown below

Hi,

I am assuming that you are using Vista. Based on your post/description:
1. the HP Compaq 6710b has no parallel port;
2. the HP LaserJet IIP Plus is only capable of either serial or parallel connection;
3. hence you're attempting a USB to Parallel interface;
4. the printer is installed in your notebook and is set to USB port;
5. from the printer a test print can be performed but not from the Printer Properties in your notebook;
6. all printing jobs initiated from the notebook results in an "Error".

With the above in mind, may I point/suggest that:
a. Windows Vista driver will only enable your HP LaserJet IIP Plus' basic functions to work. It is not 100% compatible;
b. alternately, you can try using the XP installation CD/drivers of the printer;
c. the compatibility issue may be compounded by the USB to parallel interface;
d. the USB to parallel interface may be hampered by a known Vista USB issue;
e. you can try patching/updating the Vista USB driver. Since this has been a recognized issue with Vista, Microsoft has posted a fix for this here or here.
f. verify that the printer does not display a 22 or 40 Error.

If the printing concern has not been rectified after completion of the above procedures, you may need to:
i. download and install HP Universal PostScript Print Driver; or
ii. consider using a wireless print server connected to the parallel port of the printer; or
iii.consider replacing your printer. Sorry.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

HP Laser Jet 1320n series

The HP LaserJet 1320 has a USB port and a Parallel port.

The HP LaserJet 1320n has a USB port and an Ethernet port.

USB-to-Parallel converter cables, like this one, are designed to attach a parallel device to a computer's USB port.

But you need to do the opposite (attach a USB device to a computer's parallel port). A USB-to-Parallel converter cable will not do this.
