Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings." Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.) Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP. Save your settings and verify the network is functional. On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live. On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.

My xbox 360 wont connect to xbox live and ive tried everthing

things you can do..... first start by connecting your 360 to the router and run a test through the system setting menu on your 360 dash board.... to do this go to system setting menu and select the network setting menu.... after selecting network setting there should be an option to test you`xbox live connection.... this is the first step in trouble shooting.... if your xbox connects to the network or router than the problem may be in the Internet connection.... after you have a connection between the xbox and the router... connect the router to the Internet and run the the test again... if you are connected to the network and the internet but still not to xbox live try doing a system update to update your system with xbox live.... after doing all of these steps you may have purchased and xbox that has been banned from xbox live and will not be able to join xbox live..... a more simple solution is that you may not have an xbox live account and simply need to set one up... this can be done through the xbox or you can go to www.xbox.com and set up a live account... you can also find FAQ's and trouble shooting steps there

I can't connect to my friends on my xbox 360

Hi,

Go to the Xbox360 System area and run the Network Test and see how it goes. A Strict NAT setting will allow you to play online but will affect the connectivity somewhat. In my case I had to log on to my Router and Allow certain ports access. My router had Xbox Live as an option to open, yours might too, have a look.

Goodluck.

Xbox 360 console update failure

In all honesty I think that if you are not having problems with your internet connection up until that point it is most likely due to the lack of hard drive. You can pick one up at any gaming or major consumer electronic store. I highly recommend this purchase as a long term investment on the system.

Prior to any other purchases you can run a quick diagnostic on your system to ensure that it is nothing else.

On your dashboard go to the System
Click on Network Settings.
Click Test Xbox Live Connection.

This will check out your set up to see if your configurations on your network are optimal to access Live
This is what it should look like:
  1. ilm-networksettings_livcon.jpg
  2. After the tests, click oh more info to see which tests failed. Hopefully it will return no failures, but if it does you can click on more info which will give you some ways to fix it. Click edit settings to change your IP, DNS settings,
    and a few other things.
