I have a Partner Mail VS and need to program a button on my phone for an extension in order to direct dial instead of having to press "transfer" then "ext #" How do I do that?

The voicemail rings busy and is not picking up

Sounds like your voicemail extensions are not programmed. You need to log into System Administration and press #505 Group 7. There you can program the extensions that will handle the voicemail. The extensions are based on type of voicemail used (VS Mail or Partner). Examples are Partner uses 78 and 79. VS Mail can use 28 and 29.

1. At that phone, press FEATURE 00 to get into programming

2. press the button you want to program,
4. then press the LEFT intercom button.
5. Then enter the 2 digit extension number.

If you have more buttons, repeat from step 2.

I bought a used avaya partner phone system online. It came with Partner mail vs module... I cannot access the menu for voice mail to set it up... Avaya directions say pressing (intercom) 777 but all I get...

Did you really think it was going to be that easy?

You have to program the VS in the proper hunt group (7) to make it work. For example, if you put it in the 2nd slot, because it was only a 2-slot carrier, it would become extensions 22 and 23 on a 2-port license and 20-23 on a 4-port. The Partner Mail is installed to the right of any 206 or 400 cards, so that you don't have any holes in the extension numbering plan.

Here's a manual for the VS R4. It should work for your system for the basic installation. http://public.carl.airpost.net/Avaya/Partner%20Mail%20VS%20R4%20Installation%20and%20Programming.pdf

Page 35 is your installation information and page 50 tells you how to program the ACS.

Good luck.

Direct transfer

Selector Code 1 and 2 have to be deleted or disabled from Auto Attendant.
Login to your voicemail admin box, go to Auto Attendant menu--- selector code assignments are in there.

Lucent Partner Mail VS - need cordless phone

Each of the modular jacks at the cabinet will accept a single line telephone. I don't think you can "bridge" a phone on 12 year old software, but if there is a spare jack, it will work with a plain old cordless phone. Plug one in, dial 10, and read what extension you have. Here's a manual for a 4.1 Partner system to help you program the ringing. Programming is done from the display phone at extension 10 or 11.

http://public.carl.airpost.net/Avaya/Partner_ACS.pdf

After you find the extension, save yourself the trouble and go to page 447 of the attached pdf. It details how to set the Automatic line preference and ringing of the cordless. The difference is that you will select your lines AFTER the intercom as in ** LIC RIC 1 2 3 4, or 4 3 2 1. This is important! You'll then be able to dial "9" to get an outside line in forward or reverse order and still call internally.

If you find you don't get an outside line when you dial "9", then keep reading the manual, you need to put your lines in groups.

Installing partner mail vs r4.1

check the voice mail ports. Can you dial them and have them answer?

Also check that each extension is programmed to hunt to voice mail in the partner programming

Transferring

Since you're asking this question in the Partner 18 category, I'm guessing it's a Partner phone.

1. Transfer from a system phone is done by pressing the TRANSFER button and either dialing the 2 digit extension or the DSS button programmed for that phone.

2. Transfer from a single line phone is by flashing the hookswitch (FLASH) button and dialing the 2 digit extension.

3. Transfer into voice mail is done by programming a button or pressing FEATURE 14 and the 2 digit extension.
