Whirlpool refrigerator (top freezer) is leaking into bottom of fridge. What can it be?

Hi, read about your problem. What's happening is your drain in the freezer compartment in the back behind wall is plugged. Defrost water then builds up under freezer floor and freezes. To fix, remove back wall. Also the floor needs to be opened up. Use a blow dryer to clear ice out of drain, in the trough, and under the floor. Hope this helps

your best bet is to install a drain heater. This heater is wired off the evaporater fan, it runs constantly so that the ice melting off the evap. coils stays melted instead of re-freezing when it touches the drain tray. You may or may not be able to do this yourself. Do you have any technical experience?

Constant Defrost causing water accumulation problems

Yes! look under you fridge for the consendate drain hose *(usually dangling right over the catch tray) and using a long piece of slightly heavy guage wire snake up the drain hose and see if it's blocked.

If it isn't blocked you might have a crack somewhere in the fridges interior near the fridge/freezer interface. That might be a bit harder to spot since it would most likely be under cover.

Good luck and be careful.

Whirlpool ultraease refrigerator (ED7FHG) making water sounds, and drips water onto steel pan in bottom rear of freezer side. Purchased new. This is an obvious change. Problem?

You have a water leak somewhere (I'm assuming this water sound is constant). If not write me back for other possible solutions.

The only place water comes into the freezer is for an ice maker or a door water dispenser. Check around the ice maker for a leak. If there is a water dispenser in the door then check the piping to it also.

There is a drain in the bottom of the freezer compartment which is there so when the frost is melted by the defrost heaters, it has somewhere to go. This drain drains into the "drip pan" (or condensate pan) in the bottom of the unit. Here the water will sit until it is evaporated into the air.

If this helps you, please select YES to the first two ratings questions. Thank you, and Good Luck.

Everything freezes in bottom of refrigerator

Check that all seals are completely sealed, especially the freezer door. If the freezer door leaks, the bottom of fridge will constantly be cold. Also, check the flap in the inside back. It controls the air between freezer and fridge. It may be putting more air flow to fridge rather than freezer. The cold air will sink low and keep the drawer are colder.
