SOURCE: Asus p5w DH Deluxe: updated to new bios 2704 now only black screen on boot up
brophylad,You sound like you know your way around a PC so please do not be offended by the suggestions below that you may already be aware of to begin with.
Use the PC your are using to communicate with us and download the older bios and create a bootable floppy or CD, Nero's bootable image is best as it recognizes NT partitions, and try flashing with the old bios. Otherwise, when I've had a board on the bench with this issue I've had to get a replacement bios chip which is rather easy to replace or Asus has replaced the board for me under warranty or for a rather fair price to replace with a refurbished board.
Anyway, try this again: remove the button battery and turn off the rocker switch on your Power Supply and remove the power cable. Leave all this disconnected for several minutes. Re-insert the battery, reattach the power cable and turn the rocker switch back on and attempt a bootup. If this fails to get you to a bios setup screen the CMOS chip has failed, permanently or is glitched, with the later being my guess.
Phone Asus at 502-995-9883 and have the serial number for your board, located on the inside of the case on top of the parallel port socket. I've phoned them many times over the years and they are quick. They'll most likely will give you a post bypass keyboard sequence if there is one for your model or give you a RMA immediately. I've never found Asus slow to replace a board from the RMA department.
The above phone number is for tower boards, for notebooks (they make great notebooks and sell white boxes as notebooks) call 510-739-3777 x5110.
Best Regards and good luck,
Worldvet

Restore your PC before the BIOS update. BIOS updates are not required until & unless you face problems while running a software and it will prompt you for BIOS update. Do this update if its vital othewise do not intergere in the BIOS. I faced the same problem and after unistalling all drivers and again reload the original driver from MB VD slved it. Another thing in BIOS is USB setting at high-spped & full-speed. Try changing those settings and retry. Mine worked!...sodeep

If you lose time and day, means the little battery on your motherboard is done. Get a new one, replace it, should be fine then. As far as booting into BIOS, there should be a boot option, and you can boot into a hard disk, a usb or a cd rom drive. Of course in this case, choose the hard disk that has your operation system on it.

you have to install the driver for your scanner. usually driver cd came with the unit when you purchased it.
