Just got a new Steelseries Shift keyboard. When i plug it in to my computer and turn the PC on it wont go past the bios screen, however if i unplug the keyboard and turn the machine on it boots up fine. after the machine boots into windows I can plug the Kayboard in and everything works fine. My question is, how do I get the machine to boot without having to unplug and plug back in the keyboard? Could it be something to do with an outdated BIOS? if so I need some advice on how to update the BIOS

SOURCE: Asus p5w DH Deluxe: updated to new bios 2704 now only black screen on boot up

brophylad,You sound like you know your way around a PC so please do not be offended by the suggestions below that you may already be aware of to begin with.

Use the PC your are using to communicate with us and download the older bios and create a bootable floppy or CD, Nero's bootable image is best as it recognizes NT partitions, and try flashing with the old bios. Otherwise, when I've had a board on the bench with this issue I've had to get a replacement bios chip which is rather easy to replace or Asus has replaced the board for me under warranty or for a rather fair price to replace with a refurbished board.

Anyway, try this again: remove the button battery and turn off the rocker switch on your Power Supply and remove the power cable. Leave all this disconnected for several minutes. Re-insert the battery, reattach the power cable and turn the rocker switch back on and attempt a bootup. If this fails to get you to a bios setup screen the CMOS chip has failed, permanently or is glitched, with the later being my guess.

Phone Asus at 502-995-9883 and have the serial number for your board, located on the inside of the case on top of the parallel port socket. I've phoned them many times over the years and they are quick. They'll most likely will give you a post bypass keyboard sequence if there is one for your model or give you a RMA immediately. I've never found Asus slow to replace a board from the RMA department.

The above phone number is for tower boards, for notebooks (they make great notebooks and sell white boxes as notebooks) call 510-739-3777 x5110.

Best Regards and good luck,
Worldvet

SOURCE: Usb keyboard no longer recognised during boot process

Restore your PC before the BIOS update. BIOS updates are not required until & unless you face problems while running a software and it will prompt you for BIOS update. Do this update if its vital othewise do not intergere in the BIOS. I faced the same problem and after unistalling all drivers and again reload the original driver from MB VD slved it. Another thing in BIOS is USB setting at high-spped & full-speed. Try changing those settings and retry. Mine worked!...sodeep

SOURCE: BIOS issue or ? Rebooting PC into BIOS on ASUS A7V8X-X ACPI BIOS Revision 1003, 13.2.2003

If you lose time and day, means the little battery on your motherboard is done. Get a new one, replace it, should be fine then. As far as booting into BIOS, there should be a boot option, and you can boot into a hard disk, a usb or a cd rom drive. Of course in this case, choose the hard disk that has your operation system on it.

Why wont steelseries recognise the laptopkeyboard???what do i do???

So, start out with plugging your keyboard in. Where do you have it plugged? It may be "USB 2.0", and if you have it plugged into a "USB 3.0" socket, it may not work. Try a different socket.

Try a different computer, perhaps the keyboard is bad.

Try a different keyboard, too.

How do I get past the blue screen? Computer has been stuck on this for weeks. It has been rebooted, restarted, unplugged, still doesn't get past blue screen.

First unplug your machine and plug it back in and turn it on while its booting up you should see a message to press the F2 key to enter the BIOS. press that key, you will only have a couple of seconds to press it. Look for an option called First Boot Device, Boot Sequence, or something similar; press the arrow keys on your keyboard to select this field and then press Enter (You may have to select Advanced Options or another submenu to find it.) In the resulting screen, select CDROM/DVD and then press the Esc key until you return to the main BIOS screen. Follow the onscreen instructions to save your new settings and exit BIOS setup. Insert the installation disc (you need an installation disc of the operating system, if you dont have one you can find one on amazon, but if you needed to buy one you should consider upgrading to windows 7(more like vista) or Windows 8 (not really like vista)) once the disc is inserted restart the computer and follow the on-screen instructions

When i turn on the computer it goes to the windows loading screen and wont go past that, ive reset it, unplugged it , and it wont go past that screen The computer is a acer E2200 desktop and it runs on...

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? You can do this by pressing/tapping the 'F8' key after the bios screen (Acer Screen) comes up. If it does you boot correctly then, you can try to restore the system to an earlier date using System Restore. That's located in the start menu/windows orb at All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore

I am getting the blue screen of death (unmountable_boot_volume) How do I get past that to try and fix problem? It wont open in safe mode either

I would next try and go into the BIOS. This is done by pressing (quickly and repeatedly) and key, such as 'del' when first turning the machine on. You'll have to look up how it's done for your particular PC.

Once in the BIOS look at your hard drive. It might have failed.

WOW Wrath of the Lich King Keyset for ZBoard

I had the same problems as you and found this answer on blizzard forums.

Steelseries took over from Ideazon and Ideazone no longer exist so none of their websites work any more.

First, the disc that comes with your ZBoard is now too old to use. The drivers on the disc were made by Ideazon before Steelseries took over, whereas the WotLK keyset was made afterwards. Steelseries seem to have completely reworked the drivers in the interim.

How to Fix
Step 1. Uninstall your ZBoard.
Step 2. Go to http://www.steelseries.com/downloads/#keyboards and DL the Z Engine.
Step 3. Make sure your ZBoard is plugged in with the standard keyset.
Step 4. Install the new Z Engine.
Step 5. Switch to your WotLK keyset.
Step 6. Run WoW.

I used this solution last night with some success.
Most of the gamer keys now work but some still don't work correctly such as, all the chat buttons default to say.
Hope this helps

I can't install Tarantula rz03 on my pc neither its driver software!

You must enable USB Keyboard in your BIOS.. and Turn OFF PS/2 detect if it has it. Have a look in the BIOS and see if there is any entries for USB etc... What you need to do is, boot up & then install the correct "Drivers" for your Keyboard from the CD etc that came with ya KB, then reboot and after reboot insert ya keyboard.. if it asks for drivers point it to them, on CD etc. THEN after next and subsequent boots it should be OK. I had a squiz on "Google' but didn't find any drivers? :(
