One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

Startup screen wont show on external display

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

Windows Advanced Options Menu

Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice

you could select the safe mode option and see if you can get the extended desktop again but first you will have to find out why it crashed

if you select last known good configuration that worked it might give you an idea

hope it helps

I have windows xp media center edition 2005 and i have downloaded a driver for my new monitor lg E2250 and my computer have shut down.. since that i cant load windows i cant boot in safe mode for a...

Can you reload last known good configuration? Tap F8 as the computer boots up to pull up safe mode, etc options. If that doesn't work, you're SOL. The fact you cannot even boot up safe mode pretty much means you're hosed. If you have files on that hard drive, I would recommend pulling the hard drive out and getting the data off w/ a hard drive adapter. Once all files saved, I would wipe the drive and reinstall the operating system. Sorry. Situations like that ****.

I have viruses on my notebook and can not access any programmes now there is a screen that says Missing operating system how can i repair this

> Missing Operating System

Either the disk-drive ('C:') containing the Operating System is "dead" -- nothing can be read from the disk-drive, and so Windows cannot be loaded.

Or, the computer-virus has overwritten the very first part of the Operating System that is stored on the disk-drive.

In the former case, either exercise the WARRANTY to get the "dead" disk-drive repaired, or replace the disk-drive yourself, and reinstall Windows 7.

In the latter case, boot your computer from the Windows 7 disk, and choose "Repair the existing installation", to see if that will "refresh" the destroyed start-up files.

Gateway/vista black screen with no ctrl+alt+del but a nice cursor

Try this, before it boots up and just after in posts press F8, it should bring up a page where you can choose your boot option, choose "Safe Mode", if the computer does boot to safe mode there are a few steps you can do to remedy this.

First goto my computer, c:drive/windows and scroll down to a folder called prefetch open the folder, highlight everything in that folder by left clicking once on one of the icons and holding control(ctrl) then pressing A once everything is highlighted hold down the shift key and press delete, everything should now be gone, exit out of all the windows do a disk clean up, my computer right click on c:drive (your main drive) and click on disk cleanup tick all boxes and then click ok to start deleting the temp files. once finished reboot mechines and leave it to boot up. if you still are having problems or it wont boot up into safe mode post back. cheers.

Turn on Emachine with Windows Vista, only black screen comes up with boot SOMETHING DOES NOTHING ELSE,at bottom of screen say's Boot Manager missing.

At boot up try pressing F8. to get to a menu that asks if you want to use safe mode, etc. If you can get that menu click safe mode then try to solve the problem when you are back on. If you cant get that menu you might have to reformat your hard drive. Which means lose everything. Its probably a hardware issue. Which if you dont want to reformat you could take it to a repair shop and they will replace the part that has fried.

Freezing in 'safe mode'

Have you tried accessing the bios to set boot order? It may be trying to load from the hdd before the optical/usb drive.

During the flash screen, press F2 (though it can vary by maker) and change your boot order to load the USB drive first.

Hope this helps!

Zd8000 wont boot up

try to get into SAFE mode... tap F8 repeatedly when you first power on. You should get a safe mode boot menu, select last known good profile and press enter.

If this does not work reboot go into SAFE mode and select Safe Mode from menu and see if it will boot up.

You may get a pop up to use system restore, say yes, select restore to an earlier date (or similar) then use the calander to select a restore date that is PRIOR to the problem starting.

If this does not work boot to safe mode again and say NO (cancel) to use system restore and see if you can get to the desktop

post back results for further troubleshooting
